Product Description
The Extron DXP 1616 HD 4K PLUS is a 16x16 4K/60 HDMI matrix switcher built for high-performance signal distribution in commercial AV installations. It routes any of 16 HDMI sources to any of 16 outputs at resolutions up to 4K/60 with 4:4:4 color sampling, supporting HDMI 2.0b features including data rates up to 18 Gbps, HDR, Deep Color up to 12-bit, 3D, HD lossless audio formats, and CEC. As an HDCP 2.3-compliant, fully digital matrix switcher, it maintains the highest image quality across a large source-and-display infrastructure.

This 16x16 HDMI matrix switcher pairs Extron SpeedSwitch, EDID Minder, and Key Minder technologies with automatic input cable equalization and output reclocking, so HDCP-encrypted content switches quickly and reliably and signals stay clean over long cable runs. Built-in audio de-embedders extract HDMI audio to four sets of analog stereo and S/PDIF outputs, eliminating separate audio extraction boxes. The unit installs in a 2U full-rack metal enclosure and is well suited to conference and divisible meeting rooms, briefing rooms, lecture halls, simulation labs, and centralized control rooms. A TAA-compliant version and a DoDIN APL approved version are available on request for government and defense projects.
For rooms that need fewer outputs, compare the Extron DXP 168 HD 4K PLUS (16x8) and the Extron DXP 88 HD 4K PLUS (8x8). Browse the full Extron collection for matching cables, control interfaces, and accessories.
Key Features
- 16x16 4K/60 Matrix Switching — Routes any of 16 HDMI sources to any of 16 outputs at up to 4096 x 2160 at 60 Hz with 4:4:4 color for large multi-source, multi-display systems.
- HDMI 2.0b Support — Handles data rates up to 18 Gbps along with HDR, Deep Color up to 12-bit, 3D, HD lossless audio formats, and CEC for current sources and displays.
- SpeedSwitch, EDID Minder, and Key Minder — SpeedSwitch delivers fast switching of HDCP-encrypted content, while EDID Minder and Key Minder manage EDID and maintain continuous HDCP authentication for quick, reliable switching.
- HDMI Audio De-embedding — Built-in de-embedders extract HDMI audio to four sets of balanced/unbalanced analog stereo and S/PDIF outputs, removing the need for external audio extraction products.
- Automatic Cable Equalization and Reclocking — Active input equalization and output reclocking restore signal timing so 4K/60 signals run cleanly over longer cables when used with Extron Pro Series HDMI cables.
- Ethernet and RS-232 Control — The matrix switcher can be monitored and controlled over a LAN, WAN, or the internet using standard TCP/IP protocols, or integrated through RS-232 with Extron's SIS command set.
- Global Presets and Rooming — Stores up to 16 frequently used I/O configurations and groups outputs into rooms with their own presets for fast, repeatable configuration changes.
- HDCP 2.3 Compliant — Ensures display of content-protected media and interoperability with other HDCP-compliant devices.
- 2U Rack-Mount Metal Enclosure — Installs in a standard 19-inch rack with built-in brackets and an Extron Everlast internal power supply.
- TAA and DoDIN APL Versions Available — TAA-compliant and DoDIN APL approved versions are available on request for government, military, and defense deployments.

Frequently Asked Questions
What sources and displays is the DXP 1616 HD 4K PLUS compatible with?
It works with computers equipped with 4K graphics cards, 4K media players, 4K Blu-ray players, and similar sources, as well as 4K native-resolution displays. It supports HDMI 2.0b with resolutions up to 4096 x 2160 at 60 Hz, 4:4:4 color, HDR, and HDCP 2.3, and includes HDMI-to-DVI format correction for DVI displays when appropriate adapters are used.
How does it handle audio in an AV system?
Embedded HDMI audio can be switched with its video to any output, and built-in de-embedders extract audio to four sets of analog stereo (balanced or unbalanced) and S/PDIF outputs. Analog de-embedding supports LPCM up to 2.0 / 24-bit / 96 kHz, which simplifies integration with the room's audio system without separate extraction hardware.
How is it controlled and integrated into a larger system?
The switcher provides Ethernet (10/100Base-T) for monitoring and control over a LAN, WAN, or the internet using standard TCP/IP protocols, plus an RS-232 port using Extron's SIS command set for integration with a control system. Global presets and rooming allow stored I/O configurations to be recalled from the front panel, Ethernet, or serial control.
How far can it run 4K HDMI cabling?
Automatic input cable equalization and output reclocking restore signal integrity over long runs. Per Extron, 4K/60 signals are equalized to 35 feet (10.7 meters) when used with Extron HDMI Pro cables, reducing the need for additional signal conditioning equipment.
Is a TAA-compliant or DoDIN APL version available?
Yes. A TAA-compliant version and a DoDIN APL approved version are available on request, which makes this matrix switcher suitable for government, military, and defense installations. Contact Creation Networks to specify these requirements on your order.
Is it rack-mountable, and what warranty applies?
It installs in a standard 19-inch rack in a 2U full-width metal enclosure with built-in brackets. The product carries a 3-year parts and labor warranty, and the Extron Everlast power supply carries a 7-year parts and labor warranty. Contact Creation Networks for lead times and AV integration support.
