Product Overview

The Adder XD612R-DP-US is the receiver unit of the AdderLink XD612 high-definition DisplayPort KVM extender, delivering single-head or dual-head video at up to 1920x1200@60Hz per screen to a remote user console. Using DisplayPort 1.2 Multi-Stream Transport (MST), this dual-head KVM extender receiver drives two displays from a single CATx or fiber link — up to 100m over CAT6 copper or up to 4km over optical fiber with SFP+ modules. It pairs with the XD612 transmitter to give operators real-time, low-latency access to computers located in secure equipment rooms.

Product Description

The XD612 receiver sits at the operator's desk and terminates the point-to-point extension link, presenting two full-size DisplayPort 1.2 outputs, four USB 2.0 HID-emulated console ports, analog audio jacks, and an RS232 serial port.

Because the link is a low-latency point-to-point protocol rather than a network stream, the receiver is plug and play: no network configuration, drivers, or software are required, and the desktop feel matches a locally connected machine. Video runs at up to 1920x1200@60Hz with 24-bit color and 4:4:4 chroma on each of the two heads, carried over MST from the transmitter's single DisplayPort source connection.

True Emulation USB keeps up to four full/low-speed HID devices — keyboards, mice, graphics tablets, jog shuttles — reliably connected, while bi-directional 24-bit/96kHz analog audio supports line in/out and headphones directly at the receiver. Two channels of 24-bit/192kHz PCM audio are also supported over the DisplayPort connection. RS232 passes between units at up to 115200 baud with RTS/CTS flow control for touch panels and control devices. The fanless metal chassis carries a 500,000-hour calculated MTBF and cULus, CE, and FCC approvals. This receiver requires the matching transmitter — see the Adder XD612T-DP-US transmitter — or browse the full Adder Technology collection at Creation Networks.

Key Features

  • Dual-Head HD Video via MST — Drives one or two DisplayPort screens at up to 1920x1200@60Hz each, with 24-bit color and 4:4:4 chroma, over a single link.
  • Copper or Fiber Link — Up to 100m/328ft over CAT6 via RJ45, or up to 4km/2.5 miles over fiber using SFP+ modules (sold separately).
  • Plug-and-Play Point-to-Point Protocol — Low-latency extension that works the moment it is connected; no network setup, drivers, or software.
  • True Emulation USB 2.0 — Four console USB ports reliably support HID devices including keyboards, mice, graphics tablets, and jog shuttles.
  • Bi-Directional Analog Audio — 24-bit/96kHz stereo line in/out and headphone connection directly at the receiver.
  • Digital Audio over DisplayPort — Two channels of 24-bit/192kHz PCM audio carried on the DisplayPort connection.
  • RS232 Serial Pass-Through — Up to 115200 baud with RTS/CTS flow control for serial peripherals and control integration.
  • EDID Management — Monitor capabilities pass back to the host computer for optimal compatibility.
  • Fanless Reliability — Silent metal chassis with a calculated MTBF of 500,000 hours (Telcordia SR332).

Typical Applications

  • Broadcast studio — keep noisy production workstations out of acoustically treated spaces.
  • Government space — locate computers in secured rooms while operators work at extended consoles.
  • Boardroom — drive dual-display presentation positions from rack-housed PCs.
  • Training room — extend instructor consoles from centralized equipment closets.
  • Commercial meeting space — centralize source PCs while keeping desks clean and quiet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the XD612R-DP-US support 4K displays?
No. The XD612 is an HD-class extender rated by the vendor at up to 1920x1200@60Hz per screen (single or dual head). If you need dual-head 4K60, ask Creation Networks about the AdderLink XD642 series.

Do I need a transmitter for this receiver to work?
Yes. The receiver pairs with the AdderLink XD612 transmitter — order the Adder XD612T-DP-US transmitter to complete the link.

How does dual-head video work over one cable?
The transmitter takes a single DisplayPort 1.2 MST feed from the computer and the receiver splits it to two DisplayPort outputs, so both screens travel on one CATx or fiber link.

What fiber modules are required for long runs?
The SFP+ cage accepts Adder 10GbE modules: multi-mode for up to 300m or single-mode for longer distances up to the 4km system rating. Modules are sold separately.

Is any network configuration needed?
No. The XD612 uses a direct point-to-point protocol — connect the link cable and it works, with no IP addressing, drivers, or software.

Can serial touch panels be extended?
Yes. RS232 passes between transmitter and receiver at up to 115200 baud with RTS/CTS flow control.
