When tilt earns its place

Tilt matters whenever the display sits above seated eye level — a screen mounted high in a lobby, a classroom display above a whiteboard, a menu board above a counter. Without it, viewers at the front look at the panel edge-on and the image washes out.

As a working rule, if the centre of the screen is more than about a foot above the average viewer's eye line, specify tilt. Below that, a flat wall mount is cheaper, sits closer to the wall and gives a cleaner result.

Wall construction decides the mount

Display weight and VESA pattern narrow the choice, but what the wall is made of settles it. On any display above roughly 55 inches on steel studs, a metal stud wall plate is a requirement rather than an accessory — those carry their own part numbers and are listed under mounting accessories.

Ultra-slim versus standard

Ultra-slim models hold the display closer to the wall but leave less room for cable access and rear connectors. Where the display has a deep connector panel or cables enter from behind, check clearance before specifying.
