Product Overview

The Williams AV IR SY4 is a medium-area infrared assistive listening system that covers up to 18,000 square feet, making it a turnkey solution for ADA compliance in conference rooms, classrooms, courtrooms, and assisted living facilities. The kit pairs the IR T2 SoundPlus infrared transmitter with five WIR RX18 two-channel stethoset receivers and a five-slot drop-in charger. Because infrared transmission is contained by walls, the IR SY4 is well suited for secure facilities and multi-room buildings where RF spillover is a concern. Everything needed for installation, including a wall/ceiling mount and ADA wall plaque, ships in the box.

Product Description

At the head end, the compact IR T2 transmitter combines the modulator and emitter in a single wall- or ceiling-mountable enclosure, eliminating the need for rack space in smaller venues. Audio connects through two Euroblock line inputs that accept balanced or unbalanced signal from a DSP, mixer, or amplifier, plus a 3.5mm microphone input with a dedicated gain knob and channel selector. A separate Euroblock control port supports integration with a room control system, so AV integrators can tie the transmitter into an existing automation processor. Back-panel green and yellow LEDs confirm power and signal presence at a glance, and a power-saving mode shuts off the IR carrier after 12 minutes without audio.

The five included WIR RX18 stethoset receivers use a low-mass, under-the-chin design that is easy to sanitize between users, an important consideration for assisted living and healthcare deployments. Each receiver has on/off controls built into the arms, supports 2.3/2.8 MHz or stereo operation, and runs up to seven hours on a charge of its NiMH battery pack. The five-slot charger uses red LED indicators to show charging status, keeping the full receiver inventory ready for the next session. Selectable transmission frequencies (2.3, 2.8, 3.3, and 3.8 MHz) avoid interference from high-efficiency lighting.

For facilities that prefer four-channel bodypack receivers, see the companion Williams AV IR SY6 system, or browse the full Williams AV assistive listening collection for transmitters, receivers, and accessories.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the IR SY4 meet ADA assistive listening requirements?

Yes. The system provides assistive listening coverage for a medium-area venue and ships with an ADA wall plaque to notify patrons that hearing assistance is available. Verify receiver counts against your venue's seating capacity per ADA guidelines.

How do I connect the IR SY4 to my existing AV system?

The IR T2 transmitter accepts line-level audio from a DSP, mixer, or amplifier through two Euroblock inputs (balanced or unbalanced). A 3.5mm microphone input with dedicated gain is also available for standalone use without a house system.

Can the transmitter be controlled from a room control system?

Yes. A separate Euroblock control port (Ground, Tx, Rx) supports third-party control integration, allowing power and operating functions to be managed from an automation processor.

Will the infrared signal leak into adjacent rooms?

No. Infrared light does not pass through walls, so audio stays contained within the room. This makes the IR SY4 suitable for courtrooms, government spaces, and multi-room facilities running adjacent sessions.

How long do the receivers run on a charge?

Each WIR RX18 stethoset receiver runs up to seven hours on its NiMH battery pack and recharges in the included five-slot charger.

Can I add more receivers later?

Yes. The IR T2 transmitter supports additional compatible Williams AV infrared receivers, so the system scales as audience needs grow.
