Product Overview

The Williams AV IR SY22 D pairs a Dante-enabled IR M1 D modulator with four IR E4 emitters, an IR A4 array, and four-channel bodypack receivers to form a turnkey large-area infrared assistive listening system. It is the highest-coverage configuration in the IR+ family, specified for auditoriums, large houses of worship, and government assembly chambers where a single emitter cannot reach every seat. Everything required for an ADA-compliant infrared hearing assistance deployment ships in the box, including chargers, earphones, and compliance signage.

Product Description

System design starts at the rack: the IR M1 D is a single-rack-unit infrared modulator that takes program audio either from two Dante network channels or from a pair of combination XLR/TRS connectors supporting balanced or unbalanced line-level and mic-level sources with selectable phantom power. For integrators working in networked AV environments, the Dante input means the assistive listening feed is just another route in Dante Controller rather than a dedicated analog run from the DSP.

The modulator's DSP stage offers three compression ratios and adjustable high-pass and low-pass filters to shape program audio for hearing-impaired listeners, and a 400 Hz internal test tone speeds commissioning. All settings, including selectable carrier frequencies of 2.3/2.8 or 3.3/3.8 MHz, are managed through the unit's embedded web page, so a technician can adjust the system from a laptop on the network without pulling the unit from the rack.

Coverage comes from four IR E4 emitters and the IR A4 array. Each emitter home-runs to one of the modulator's four RJ-45 ports on a single Cat5e cable carrying +48 VDC power, RS-485 communication, and the baseband IR signal, which keeps electrical work at the emitter locations to zero. With each IR E4 rated at up to 18,000 square feet in single-channel mode, this four-emitter package handles deep rooms, wide fan-shaped seating, and under-balcony zones that block line of sight from a single transmitter position. Since IR energy is contained by the room's walls, neighboring spaces can operate their own systems on the same frequencies.

Listeners use the WIR RX22-4N bodypack receiver, a four-channel unit with a dual-lens detector, lanyard, and 3.5 mm output driving the included EAR 022 earphones or optional neckloops for hearing aid users. Two BAT KT6 dual-bay charger kits and the IDP 008 ADA wall plaque round out the package. See the Williams AV assistive listening collection for spare receivers, or the stethoset-equipped IR SY23 D if your venue prefers under-chin receivers.

Key Features

  • Maximum IR+ Coverage Configuration — Four IR E4 emitters plus the IR A4 array make this the largest-area package in the IR+ line, sized for venues where one or two emitters leave shadowed seating.
  • Native Dante Input — Two channels of Dante audio feed the modulator straight from the network, simplifying integration with networked DSPs and audio transport systems.
  • Analog Fallback Inputs — Combination XLR/TRS jacks accept balanced or unbalanced line or mic signals with phantom power, preserving compatibility with conventional consoles.
  • Cat5e Emitter Infrastructure — Power, control, and signal travel on one Cat5e cable per emitter from the modulator's RJ-45 ports, reducing installation labor and eliminating emitter-side power supplies.
  • Four-Channel Bodypack Receivers — WIR RX22-4N receivers select among 2.3, 2.8, 3.3, and 3.8 MHz carriers and run up to 60 hours on alkaline AA batteries.
  • Web-Based Management — The embedded configuration site handles carrier selection, audio processing, auto carrier shut-off timing, and diagnostics remotely.
  • Secure, Room-Contained Audio — Infrared transmission cannot leave the room, supporting confidential proceedings and interference-free multi-room installations.
  • ADA Compliance Hardware Included — Receivers, earphones, chargers, and the IDP 008 wall plaque cover the practical requirements of an assistive listening mandate.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I specify the SY22 D instead of the SY21 D?

The SY22 D ships with four IR E4 emitters versus two in the SY21 D. Specify it for deeper rooms, balcony seating, or layouts where columns and overhangs interrupt infrared line of sight from a two-emitter design.

Can the system carry two separate audio programs?

Yes. The IR M1 D supports two audio channels, each assignable to its own carrier frequency, and the WIR RX22-4N receivers select among four channels. This supports dual-language or program-plus-description workflows in one room.

Does the Dante input require a separate license or card?

No. The IR M1 D variant includes the Dante interface as built. The non-Dante IR M1 is the analog-only version of the same modulator.

How do I commission and test coverage?

Use the 400 Hz internal test tone as the source, then walk the seating area with a receiver. The modulator's dual IR test LED and front-panel headphone jacks let a technician verify signal and audio at the rack.

What do hearing aid users need?

Hearing aid wearers with telecoils use a neckloop (such as the Williams AV NKL 001) plugged into the receiver's 3.5 mm jack. Neckloops are available separately and are typically required for ADA hearing-aid-compatible receiver counts.

Who supports the product after installation?

Williams AV backs the modulator and emitters with a 2-year warranty and the receivers with 5 years; Creation Networks can assist with replacement receivers, batteries, and accessories over the system's life.
