Product Overview
The Williams AV IR SY12 D is the IR+ Secure system with Dante: a large-area infrared assistive listening package designed for courtrooms, council chambers, and other venues where audio confidentiality is a requirement, not a preference. Because infrared light cannot pass through walls, the transmitted program stays inside the room. The system pairs the Dante-enabled IR M1 D modulator with two linked IR E4 emitters, five rechargeable IR RX20 stethoset receivers, neckloops for hearing aid users, a five-bay charger, and ADA signage.
Product Description
The 1RU rack-mount IR M1 D modulator is the head end. It accepts two channels of program audio over Dante or through two combination XLR/quarter-inch TRS inputs supporting balanced or unbalanced line-level and microphone sources with selectable phantom power. For courtrooms and government facilities standardizing on networked audio, the Dante input puts the assistive listening system on the same managed network as the DSP and recording infrastructure.
Inside the modulator, DSP processing offers compression ratios of 1:1, 1.5:1, or 2:1 with high-pass and low-pass filter control, optimizing speech for hearing assistance. Carrier frequencies select between the 2.3/2.8 and 3.3/3.8 MHz pairs, and an adjustable auto carrier shut-off conserves the emitters when no audio is present. All configuration, monitoring, and diagnostics run through the embedded web page, and a 400 Hz internal test tone simplifies commissioning.
The two IR E4 emitters mount together on the included MLB 003 metal linking bar with BKT 024 wall brackets, each fed by a single Cat5e cable from the modulator carrying +48 VDC power, RS-485 communication, and the baseband infrared signal. Rated at up to 18,000 square feet per emitter in single-channel mode, the linked pair covers substantial courtrooms and hearing rooms from one wall position. The physics of infrared do the security work: no signal escapes the room, and adjacent courtrooms can run identical systems without interference.
Participants listen on IR RX20 stethoset receivers with internal LiPo batteries rated for 8 hours per charge, recharged in the included CHG 520 five-bay charger. Two NKL 001 neckloops couple the audio to telecoil-equipped hearing aids, supporting ADA hearing-aid-compatible receiver requirements. Browse the Williams AV collection at Creation Networks for additional receivers, or compare the bodypack-equipped IR SY11 D IR+ Complete with Dante.
Key Features
- Room-Contained Secure Audio — Infrared transmission is physically blocked by walls, making the system suitable for courtrooms, closed hearings, and other proceedings where audio must not leave the room.
- Dante Network Input — The IR M1 D subscribes to two Dante channels, integrating with networked courtroom and conference audio systems without analog tie lines.
- Linked Dual-Emitter Coverage — Two IR E4 emitters on the included MLB 003 linking bar cover large rooms from a single mounting position, each rated up to 18,000 square feet in single-channel mode.
- Rechargeable Stethoset Receivers — Five IR RX20 receivers run about 8 hours per LiPo charge and drop into the CHG 520 five-bay charger, eliminating disposable batteries.
- Hearing Aid Compatibility Included — Two NKL 001 neckloops couple receiver audio to telecoil hearing aids for ADA compliance.
- Single-Cable Emitter Wiring — Each emitter needs only one Cat5e run from the modulator for power, control, and signal.
- DSP Speech Optimization — Selectable compression and filtering improve intelligibility for listeners with hearing loss.
- Web-Based Administration — The embedded configuration page manages carriers, processing, and the auto carrier shut-off timer remotely.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is this called the IR+ Secure system?
Infrared light cannot penetrate walls, so the assistive listening audio is physically contained within the room. That property makes IR the standard choice for courtrooms, closed sessions, and attorney-client-sensitive proceedings where RF or Wi-Fi audio could be intercepted outside.
What does the Dante version add over the standard IR SY12?
The IR M1 D modulator in this package includes a Dante network audio interface supporting two channels. The base IR SY12 uses the analog-only IR M1. Everything else in the package is identical.
How do hearing aid users connect?
The two included NKL 001 neckloops plug into the IR RX20's 3.5 mm jack and couple audio inductively to telecoil-equipped hearing aids and cochlear implants, satisfying ADA hearing-aid-compatible receiver provisions.
How much area do the two linked emitters cover?
Each IR E4 is rated up to 18,000 square feet in single-channel mode. The MLB 003 linking bar mounts both emitters together so a single wall position covers large rooms; aiming and channel count determine real-world coverage.
Can the system be installed by our integrator with standard cabling?
Yes. Each emitter requires one Cat5e run back to the modulator, which supplies power, RS-485 control, and the IR signal. No electrical outlet is needed at the emitter wall.
What warranty applies?
Williams AV covers the modulator and emitters for 2 years and the IR RX20 receivers for 5 years (90 days on batteries), with 90-day coverage on accessories.
