Product Overview
The Williams AV IR ME1 D is a Dante-ready infrared assistive listening system packaged for single-zone commercial venues that need ADA compliance with networked audio integration. The IR+ Combo includes the IR M1 D infrared modulator and Wi-Fi server with a two-channel Dante input, one IR E4 infrared emitter, and an IDP 008 ADA wall plaque. The emitter covers up to 18,000 square feet in single-channel mode, suiting auditoriums, courtrooms, sanctuaries, and large meeting spaces. Because infrared transmission stays within the room, the system supports both assistive listening and secure audio applications.
Product Description
The rack-mount IR M1 D control center occupies a single rack unit and accepts audio three ways: a two-channel Dante network input, and two analog combination XLR/1/4-inch TRS jacks that handle balanced or unbalanced line-level signals or microphones with selectable phantom power. For integrators working on Dante-based projects, the assistive listening feed routes directly from the house DSP over the existing network with no analog tie lines. DSP-based processing in the modulator provides selectable compression ratios and high-pass/low-pass filtering, while a 400 Hz internal test tone and dual front-panel headphone jacks support fast commissioning and channel monitoring.
The included IR E4 emitter connects over a single CAT5e cable that delivers 48 VDC power, RS-485 communication, and the baseband infrared signal from one of the modulator's four RJ-45 ports — no power outlet is required at the emitter location. The IR M1 D also acts as a Wi-Fi audio server, streaming program audio to the free Williams AV WaveCAST app on listeners' iOS and Android devices when connected to a multicast-enabled network. All settings, including the adjustable auto carrier shut-off, are managed through an embedded web interface. As the room or receiver count grows, add emitters from the Williams AV IR E4 IR+ Emitter page — the modulator supports up to four directly — or browse the full Williams AV collection for receivers and accessories.
Key Features
- Two-Channel Dante Input — The IR M1 D receives program audio directly from a Dante network, eliminating analog wiring between the audio rack and the assistive listening system.
- 18,000 Square Foot Coverage — The included IR E4 emitter covers up to 18,000 square feet in single-channel mode, handling most large single-zone venues with one device.
- Single CAT5e Emitter Connection — Power, RS-485 control, and baseband signal all run over one CAT5e cable, simplifying installation and eliminating local power at the emitter.
- Wi-Fi Streaming Option — The modulator streams audio to the WaveCAST app on listeners' own smartphones over a multicast-capable network, complementing dedicated IR receivers.
- Secure Audio Transmission — Infrared cannot pass through walls, making the system appropriate for courtrooms, government facilities, and confidential meeting environments.
- DSP Audio Processing — Selectable compression (1:1, 1.5:1, 2:1) and high-pass/low-pass filter controls let installers optimize speech intelligibility for the room.
- Scalable to Four Emitters — Four RJ-45 emitter ports allow the system to expand with additional IR E4 emitters as coverage needs change.
- ADA Signage Included — The IDP 008 wall plaque communicates assistive listening availability as part of an ADA compliance program.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the Dante input work in this system?
The IR M1 D modulator includes a two-channel Dante receiver. Using Dante Controller, route audio from any Dante-enabled DSP or mixer on the network to the modulator — the assistive listening feed travels over standard Ethernet with no analog interconnects.
Is one emitter enough for my venue?
The included IR E4 covers up to 18,000 square feet in single-channel mode with line of sight to listeners. Rooms with balconies, wings, or columns that block the IR path may need additional emitters, which the modulator supports through its remaining three RJ-45 ports.
What is the difference between the IR ME1 D and the IR ME1?
Both packages include one IR E4 emitter and the ADA plaque. The IR ME1 D adds the Dante-equipped IR M1 D modulator; the standard IR ME1 uses analog XLR/TRS inputs only.
Can listeners use their phones instead of IR receivers?
Yes. When the modulator is connected to a Wi-Fi multicast router or in-house network, listeners can stream the audio to the free WaveCAST app on iOS or Android devices.
How is the system configured after installation?
All settings — input levels, compression, filters, carrier frequency, and the auto carrier shut-off timer — are managed through the modulator's embedded web interface from any browser on the network.
What warranty applies?
Williams AV provides a 2-year warranty on the modulator and emitter, and 90 days on included accessories.
