Product Overview

The Williams AV FM 558 PRO D is a small-venue assistive listening system built around a Dante-enabled FM+ C transmitter, four PPA R38N receivers, and a complete installation accessory kit. It serves courtrooms, boardrooms, classrooms, and small worship spaces that need ADA-compliant hearing assistance, language interpretation, or audio description, with the Dante input pulling program audio directly from the room's networked DSP or console. Dual FM (72.1–75.9 MHz) and Wi-Fi transmission means listeners can use the supplied receivers or stream to their own phones via the WaveCAST app.

Product Description

The package centers on the FM T55 C D transmitter, a half-rack unit that mounts in a standard 19-inch rack with the included RPK 005 panel kit. As a Dante receive device, it subscribes to a channel from any Dante-enabled source over the existing audio network — no analog tie line required — while a combination XLR/1/4-inch TRS input with selectable phantom power remains available for microphone or line-level sources. DSP processing applies selectable compression and high-pass/low-pass filtering for maximum speech clarity, and the unit integrates with third-party room control systems for managed operation alongside its 3.12-inch OLED display and hosted web page.

The four PPA R38N handheld receivers each feature a bright 1-inch OLED screen, menu-based selection from 17 preset wideband frequencies, channel lock, and a detachable belt clip. Two BAT KT6 two-bay chargers with NiMH rechargeable batteries keep the receivers ready, with roughly 32 hours of runtime per charge (or up to 50 hours on disposable alkalines). Four EAR 022 surround earphones and two NKL 001 neckloops accommodate listeners with and without telecoil hearing aids, the ANT 005 remote coaxial antenna extends FM range to 1,000 feet, and the IDP 008 ADA wall plaque posts assistive listening availability at the room entrance. Because the system supports unlimited listeners over both FM and Wi-Fi, the four receivers are a starting point rather than a ceiling.

If Dante is not part of your audio design, the FM 558 PRO analog package offers the same kit with a standard transmitter. Compare all configurations in the Williams AV collection at Creation Networks.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Dante input connect to my audio system?

The FM T55 C D appears as a Dante receive device on the network. Route a channel to it in Dante Controller from any Dante-enabled DSP, mixer, or matrix — no analog wiring needed.

Can the system be used for language interpretation?

Yes. Feed an interpreter channel into the transmitter and listeners tune their R38N receivers or WaveCAST app to that broadcast, making it suitable for interpretation and audio description as well as hearing assistance.

Is four receivers enough for ADA compliance?

It depends on seating capacity. ADA tables specify minimum receiver counts by venue size; four receivers typically cover small rooms, and additional R38N receivers can be added at any time.

Does the transmitter require professional installation?

Yes. The FCC requires professional installation with approved FCC 15.203 compliant antennas; the included ANT 005 meets this requirement.

Does Wi-Fi streaming need extra hardware?

The transmitter connects to the venue's existing Wi-Fi network over Ethernet. It does not create its own network, so the facility wireless infrastructure must be in place first.

What warranty applies to this system?

The transmitter carries a 2-year parts and labor warranty; the R38N receivers are covered by the Lifetime PLUS Limited Warranty, with 90 days on most accessories.
