The VX86 uses a 1.2-inch ceramic-dome tweeter, Ferrofluid-cooled for improved power handling, above an 8-inch Kevlar/Nomex-cone woofer with a rubber surround, extending frequency response down to 34Hz (±3dB) with 91dB sensitivity and handling 5W minimum to 150W maximum RMS, the highest power rating in the VX8 rectangle family. The 8.5" x 14.5" cutout and shallow 3.64-inch mounting depth make it workable in wall cavities that cannot accommodate deeper enclosures. Sonance's CDX crossover keeps tonal balance consistent from quiet background listening up through higher playback levels, and the waveguide design is intended to spread coverage evenly across a room rather than concentrating it narrowly on-axis.
