Product Overview
The Tripp Lite PDUMH20ATNET is a 1U horizontal rackmount switched ATS PDU (Automatic Transfer Switch Power Distribution Unit) that provides redundant A/B power for single-corded network devices. With dual L5-20P / 5-20P inputs, 16 individually switchable NEMA 5-15/20R outlets, and a built-in LX Platform network interface, this TAA-compliant switched ATS PDU gives IT managers both redundant power failover and per-outlet remote control in a single 1U rack unit. It supports full remote management via SNMP, secure web browser, Telnet, or SSH, and is designed for data centers, server rooms, and network racks requiring both outlet-level power control and automatic power source redundancy.
Product Description
The PDUMH20ATNET combines an automatic transfer switch with a fully switched PDU in a 1U horizontal rackmount form factor, rated at 1.9kW / 120V / 20A single phase. The unit accepts two separate power inputs — a primary and a secondary — via dual L5-20P / 5-20P input connectors. Under normal operation, all 16 NEMA 5-15/20R outlets draw power from the primary input. If the primary source becomes unstable or fails, the ATS transfers all outlets to the secondary source within milliseconds, with no intervention required. The on-board ATS processor continuously evaluates power quality on both inputs and will not transfer to the secondary if it is of lower quality or unavailable, preventing inadvertent failover to a degraded source. Front-panel LEDs indicate primary and secondary input availability at a glance.
ATS functionality supports any two compatible AC sources: separate utility circuits, backup generators, or a two-UPS configuration. In a two-UPS setup with separate UPS systems, the primary input must be backed by a full-time sine wave zero-transfer-time UPS (Tripp Lite SmartOnline series is recommended). Each of the 16 outlets can be individually switched on, off, or power-cycled via the LX Platform network interface, enabling remote equipment reboot and load management without a site visit. The Java-free HTML5-based LX Platform supports SNMP v1/v2/v3, HTTP, HTTPS, SMTP, Telnet, SSH, FTP, DHCP, and NTP across both IPv4 and IPv6 networks at 10/100 Mbps auto-sensing. A two-digit visual current meter displays load in real time. Optional EnviroSense2 modules (sold separately) extend monitoring to include temperature, humidity, and contact closure inputs. The unit is TAA compliant for government procurement.

Key Features
- Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) — Millisecond failover between primary and secondary power inputs keeps all connected devices online when a primary source fails, with no manual intervention required.
- 16 Individually Switched NEMA 5-15/20R Outlets — Each outlet can be independently powered on, off, or cycled via the network interface, providing per-device remote power management for all connected equipment.
- Dual L5-20P / 5-20P Inputs — Two input connectors accept separate power sources — utility circuits, UPS systems, or generators — for true A/B redundancy across any compatible combination of sources.
- Built-In LX Platform Network Interface — HTML5-based, Java-free management interface supports SNMP v1/v2/v3, HTTP/HTTPS, Telnet, SSH, SMTP, DHCP, NTP on both IPv4 and IPv6 for comprehensive remote PDU management.
- Intelligent ATS Processor — Continuously monitors both input sources for power quality and will not transfer to a secondary source that is unavailable or lower quality than the primary, preventing unnecessary failover events.
- Two-Digit Current Display — Front-panel LED meter provides real-time load current visibility without requiring a network connection, supporting quick capacity checks during rack maintenance.
- Environmental Monitoring Ready — Compatible with optional EnviroSense2 modules for temperature, humidity, and dry-contact closure monitoring, extending situational awareness beyond power status.
- TAA Compliant — Meets Trade Agreements Act requirements for U.S. federal government and GSA Schedule procurement eligibility.
- 1U Horizontal Rackmount — Occupies a single rack unit in a standard 19-inch rack, maximizing available space for other equipment in high-density deployments.
Typical Applications
- Data centers requiring outlet-level remote switching combined with A/B redundant power for single-corded servers and network devices
- Network operations centers (NOCs) needing per-outlet control and automatic failover in high-availability rack deployments
- Government and federal facilities requiring TAA-compliant switched ATS PDUs with SNMP management
- Co-location facilities where tenant equipment requires independent outlet-level power control and dual-feed redundancy
- Server rooms supporting dual-UPS or utility-plus-UPS redundant power architectures

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the difference between a switched PDU and a switched ATS PDU?
- A standard switched PDU provides per-outlet remote on/off/reboot control from a single power input. A switched ATS PDU like the PDUMH20ATNET adds automatic transfer switch functionality, so it also monitors two separate input power sources and automatically fails over to the secondary source if the primary fails — combining redundancy and outlet control in a single unit.
- Does the ATS require both inputs to be on the same phase?
- No. The PDUMH20ATNET ATS supports any two compatible AC sources regardless of phase angle, enabling a wide range of dual-feed configurations including separate utility circuits, separate UPS systems, or generator-backed secondary inputs.
- What UPS is recommended for the primary input in a two-UPS configuration?
- Tripp Lite recommends a SmartOnline series (online double-conversion) UPS for the primary input in a dual-UPS ATS deployment. SmartOnline UPS systems provide zero transfer time and full-time sine wave output, meeting the requirements for the primary source in this application.
- Can each outlet be controlled independently, or only in groups?
- Each of the 16 NEMA 5-15/20R outlets is individually controllable via the LX Platform network interface. Outlets can be switched on, off, or power-cycled independently, and scheduled power actions can be configured per outlet through the web interface or SNMP.
- What environmental monitoring is available?
- The PDUMH20ATNET supports optional EnviroSense2 accessory modules (sold separately) for temperature sensing, humidity sensing, and dry-contact closure monitoring. Sensor data is accessible through the LX Platform network interface alongside PDU power status.
- Is this PDU eligible for federal government procurement?
- Yes. The PDUMH20ATNET is TAA compliant, making it eligible for purchase under U.S. federal government GSA Schedule contracts and other government procurement programs.
