Product Overview

The Tripp Lite PDUMH15AT is a 1U horizontal rackmount metered ATS PDU providing A/B power redundancy with automatic transfer switching for single-corded network devices in rack environments. Rated at 120V / 15A with eight NEMA 5-15R outlets, dual 5-15P inputs with included 12-foot power cords, and a front-panel two-digit current display, it delivers both redundant power failover and real-time load metering in a compact form factor. The unit also supports UPS maintenance bypass configurations, making it practical for data centers and server rooms requiring fault-tolerant power distribution without per-outlet switching complexity.

Product Description

The PDUMH15AT combines metered power monitoring with automatic transfer switch (ATS) functionality in a single 1U rackmount unit rated at 1.8kVA / 120V / 15A single phase. Two NEMA 5-15P input cords are included — the attached primary cord and a detachable secondary cord — allowing connection to two independently derived power sources such as separate utility circuits, UPS systems, or a utility-plus-generator pair. Under normal conditions, all eight NEMA 5-15R outlets draw from the primary input. If the primary source fails or falls outside acceptable voltage and frequency tolerances, the ATS automatically transfers all outlet load to the secondary input without reboots or service interruptions. When the primary source recovers, the unit automatically returns to primary sourced power.

A two-digit front-panel digital display shows total PDU load in amps in real time, enabling data center staff to verify circuit loading during maintenance without accessing a network interface. Sequential outlet startup energizes outlets at 250-millisecond intervals when the PDU powers on from an unpowered state, preventing inrush current spikes from interacting across connected equipment during startup. The dual-input configuration also supports use as a UPS maintenance bypass, allowing the secondary input cord to provide wall power directly to equipment while the primary UPS is taken offline for maintenance. Upgrade options are available to add network monitoring capabilities. The unit installs in 1U of a standard 2-post or 4-post 19-inch rack and is TAA compliant.

Tripp Lite PDUMH15AT Metered ATS PDU 120V 15A 8-Outlet 1U

Key Features

  • Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) — Automatically fails over from primary to secondary power input when the primary source degrades or fails, maintaining uninterrupted power to all connected devices without manual intervention.
  • Metered Power Display — Two-digit front-panel LED shows total PDU load in amps, providing at-a-glance current monitoring without a network connection.
  • Eight NEMA 5-15R Outlets — Provides eight protected 15A output receptacles for rack-mounted servers, networking equipment, and other single-corded devices.
  • Dual 5-15P Inputs with 12-Foot Cords — Both primary and secondary 12-foot input cords are included, reaching separate power sources across a standard rack row without requiring additional cord accessories.
  • Sequential Outlet Startup — Outlets energize at 250-millisecond intervals during power-on, eliminating simultaneous inrush current from all connected devices that can trip upstream circuit breakers.
  • UPS Maintenance Bypass Support — Dual-input design allows use as a maintenance bypass, routing secondary (wall) power directly to connected equipment while the primary UPS is taken offline for battery replacement or maintenance.
  • 1U Horizontal Rackmount — Fits in a single rack unit of any standard 19-inch 2-post or 4-post rack enclosure, preserving rack space in dense deployments.
  • TAA Compliant — Meets Trade Agreements Act requirements, qualifying the unit for U.S. federal government and GSA Schedule procurement.

Typical Applications

  • Data center and server room racks requiring A/B power redundancy for single-corded network devices at the 15A circuit level
  • Network closets and IDF rooms where a compact metered ATS PDU provides redundancy without per-outlet switching overhead
  • Government and federal facilities requiring TAA-compliant power distribution with ATS functionality
  • UPS maintenance bypass scenarios where equipment must remain powered during UPS servicing
  • Co-location racks where tenants require basic load metering and dual-feed input redundancy

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the PDUMH15AT and a standard metered PDU?
A standard metered PDU provides power consumption monitoring from a single input source. The PDUMH15AT adds ATS (Automatic Transfer Switch) functionality, accepting two separate input power sources and automatically switching all outlets to the secondary source if the primary fails. This provides power redundancy that a standard single-input metered PDU cannot offer.
Can the PDUMH15AT be used for UPS maintenance bypass?
Yes. The dual-input design supports a maintenance bypass configuration: the secondary input cord can be connected directly to a wall outlet, providing raw utility power to connected equipment while the primary UPS is taken offline for battery replacement, maintenance, or replacement without powering down connected devices.
Does the ATS failover require any manual action?
No. The ATS processor monitors both inputs continuously and transfers automatically when the primary input falls outside acceptable parameters. Failover and return to primary power both occur automatically without user intervention.
What is sequential outlet startup and why does it matter?
When the PDU powers up from an unpowered state, it energizes each of its eight outlets 250 milliseconds apart rather than simultaneously. This prevents all connected devices from drawing inrush current at the same instant, which could otherwise trip upstream 15A circuit breakers during startup.
Can network monitoring be added to this PDU?
Yes. The PDUMH15AT supports upgrade options to add network monitoring capabilities. Contact Creation Networks for available upgrade accessories compatible with this unit.
Is this PDU eligible for government procurement?
Yes. The PDUMH15AT is TAA compliant, making it eligible for U.S. federal government purchase under GSA Schedule contracts and other TAA-covered procurement programs.
