Product Overview
The Tripp Lite BHDBT-K-SI-ER is an HDBaseT HDMI extender kit that transmits 1080p video, audio, RS-232 serial, and two-way IR control signals up to 500 feet (150 meters) over a single Cat5e, Cat6, or Cat6a cable. The kit includes both a transmitter and receiver unit, and is compatible with optional BHDBT-TR-SI-ER transceiver units that can extend the total signal run to up to 3,000 feet (900 meters) across up to six display locations. TAA compliant and equipped with locking HDMI ports, the BHDBT-K-SI-ER is a plug-and-play HDMI over Cat6 extender solution for commercial AV installations in conference rooms, boardrooms, houses of worship, training rooms, and large venue environments.
Product Description
The BHDBT-K-SI-ER uses HDBaseT technology to extend HDMI signals at full 1920x1080 (1080p) resolution at 60Hz over a single structured cabling run of Cat5e, Cat6, or Cat6a — eliminating the distance limitations of standard HDMI cables without the need for fiber or dedicated coaxial runs. The transmitter accepts the HDMI source and the receiver connects to the display, with all video, audio, and control signals carried over the single Cat cable. Audio support includes 7.1-channel surround sound, DTS-HD, and Dolby TrueHD, with additional support for 36-bit Deep Color, 3D video, CEC pass-through, EDID management, and HDCP compliance.
Beyond extending the base 500-foot range, the system accepts up to five optional BHDBT-TR-SI-ER transceiver units daisy-chained between the transmitter and receiver, each adding up to 500 feet of extension range and an additional HDMI display output. A full chain with five transceivers supports six total display locations across a total cable run of up to 3,000 feet (900 meters), enabling large campus distributions, multi-room AV systems, and digital signage deployments from a single source. RS-232 serial pass-through at up to 115kbps supports control of serial devices such as touchscreen controllers and barcode scanners at either end of the run. Two-way IR at 39kHz allows remote control of source equipment from the display location, and control of the remote display from the source location — critical for real-world AV control scenarios. Locking HDMI ports on both the transmitter and receiver accept compatible locking HDMI cables (such as Tripp Lite P569-006-LOCK) to prevent accidental disconnection in permanent or semi-permanent installations. Mounting hardware is included for wall, rack, or pole mounting of both units. No software or drivers are required; the system is operational immediately upon connection.

Key Features
- 500-Foot HDBaseT Extension over Cat5e/6/6a — Extends 1080p HDMI video, audio, RS-232, and IR over a single Cat5e, Cat6, or Cat6a cable run up to 500 feet (150 meters), using existing structured cabling infrastructure where available.
- Expandable to 3,000 Feet via Transceivers — Supports up to five optional BHDBT-TR-SI-ER transceiver units in the signal chain, extending total reach to 3,000 feet (900 meters) with up to six display outputs for large venue and multi-room installations.
- Full HD 1080p at 60Hz — Transmits 1920x1080 resolution at 60Hz with support for 36-bit Deep Color, 3D video, EDID management, and HDCP copy protection compliance.
- 7.1 Surround Sound with DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD — Passes lossless high-definition audio formats including 7.1 multi-channel, DTS-HD Master Audio, and Dolby TrueHD alongside the video signal over the same cable run.
- Two-Way IR Control (39kHz) — Bidirectional IR pass-through allows source control from the display location and display control from the source location, enabling practical AV control without running separate IR cabling.
- RS-232 Serial Pass-Through (115kbps) — Full-duplex serial control is transmitted alongside the AV signal, supporting touchscreen displays, control systems, scanners, and other serial-controlled devices at either end of the run.
- Locking HDMI Ports — Both transmitter and receiver feature locking HDMI ports for use with Tripp Lite locking HDMI cables (e.g., P569-006-LOCK), preventing accidental disconnection in permanent commercial installations.
- Plug-and-Play Operation — No software, drivers, or configuration required; fully operational immediately upon connecting source, cable, and display.
- Flexible Mounting Options — Included hardware supports wall, rack, or pole mounting for both transmitter and receiver, accommodating diverse AV installation environments.
- TAA Compliant — Meets Trade Agreements Act requirements for U.S. federal government and GSA Schedule procurement eligibility.
Typical Applications
- Boardrooms and conference rooms distributing HDMI sources to distant displays over existing Cat6 infrastructure
- Training rooms and multi-purpose rooms requiring long-distance HDMI runs between source equipment racks and wall-mounted or ceiling-mounted displays
- Houses of worship with HDMI sources at the front of the room and displays at the back or in overflow areas beyond standard HDMI cable reach
- Government spaces and commercial meeting spaces where TAA compliance is required for AV distribution equipment
- Auditoriums and all-hands rooms using multiple display locations fed from a single HDMI source via transceiver chain
- Broadcast studios routing HDMI signals over structured cabling to production monitors in separate rooms

Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I use existing Cat5e cable already installed in the walls?
- Yes. The BHDBT-K-SI-ER works with existing Cat5e, Cat6, or Cat6a structured cabling. As long as the cable run is within 500 feet (150 meters) and terminated properly, no new cabling is required, making this a cost-effective solution for AV upgrades in existing buildings.
- How do I extend beyond 500 feet to multiple displays?
- The optional BHDBT-TR-SI-ER transceiver units are inserted between the transmitter and receiver. Each transceiver adds a Cat5e/6/6a link of up to 500 feet and provides an HDMI output for a display at that point. Up to five transceivers can be chained, supporting six total displays and a maximum total run of 3,000 feet (900 meters).
- Does the two-way IR feature work with all remote controls?
- The two-way IR operates at 39kHz, which is compatible with most consumer and commercial IR remote controls. Verify that the remote controls for your specific source and display equipment operate within this frequency range. Proprietary or non-standard IR protocols may not be supported.
- What is the locking HDMI port and which cables work with it?
- The locking HDMI ports require HDMI cables with compatible locking connectors. Tripp Lite’s P569-006-LOCK series High Speed HDMI cables with locking connectors are specifically designed to mate with these ports, physically locking into place to prevent accidental disconnection in permanent installations.
- Is this extender compatible with AV control systems for commercial integration?
- Yes. The RS-232 serial pass-through (up to 115kbps) enables control system integration with platforms like Crestron, AMX, Extron, and similar commercial AV control processors, allowing serial-controlled sources or displays at either end of the Cat cable run to be controlled from the other end.
- What is included in the kit?
- The BHDBT-K-SI-ER kit includes the HDBaseT transmitter unit, HDBaseT receiver unit, IR emitter and receiver cables, RS-232 cable, power supplies for both units, and mounting hardware for wall, rack, or pole installation. A Cat5e/6/6a cable is not included and must be sourced separately.
