Product Overview

The Telestream WFM2300 is a portable waveform monitor built for broadcast engineers and AV technicians who need to verify SD/HD/3G-SDI signals during installation and maintenance work. This multi-format waveform monitor combines waveform, vector, picture, and audio displays in a battery-capable handheld chassis, so SDI signal monitoring is no longer tied to a rack-mount bay. Standard support for HD-SDI (SMPTE 292), SD-SDI (ITU-R BT.601), and Dual Link (SMPTE 372) with automatic format detection makes it a single-instrument solution for mixed-format facilities. With Option 3G it adds SDI eye and jitter measurement for physical-layer troubleshooting in the field.

Product Description

Telestream WFM2300 portable multi-format waveform monitor front view

The WFM2300 brings full broadcast waveform and vector monitoring into a portable package that runs on internal battery or DC input, supported by a high-brightness, low-power LED-backlit display. It is a "See and Solve" instrument designed to simplify calibration, error detection, and content correction, presenting SD/HD/3G-SDI signals in RGB, YPbPr, YRGB, or pseudo-composite with Parade or Overlay component views. Sharp CRT-like trace quality, patented Gamut displays, a picture thumbnail, display freeze, and a 10,000-event error log give engineers the tools to verify content compliance at a glance. For physical-layer work, the WFM2300 reports jitter levels above 1 UI and offers selectable jitter filters from 10 Hz to 100 kHz, with automated eye amplitude, rise/fall time, and overshoot measurements that speed up SDI eye and jitter measurement in the field.

The SDI Status display summarizes signal strength, cable loss, and estimated cable length, while the bidirectional Stress Loop connectors let technicians add simulated cable length and an interfering signal for cable-margin testing before a permanent run is committed. Audio monitoring covers up to 16 channels of embedded or AES/EBU audio with multiple bar layouts, surround-sound display, and a flexible Lissajous view; an internal speaker and headphone port allow AES/EBU audio monitoring without extra equipment. Option DBE adds Dolby E stream decoding and metadata display for facilities that handle encoded audio. Because it consolidates SD/HD/3G-SDI video, digital audio, reference sync, and optional optical SDI (Option SFP) into one device, the WFM2300 is well suited to broadcast studios, remote production, post-production suites, and SDI-based AV infrastructure in auditoriums, houses of worship, and government facilities. The familiar interface uses backlit buttons, on-screen help, and 32 user-configurable presets that transfer between like units over USB, and an Ethernet port simplifies download of screenshots and the error log for documentation and service-level reporting. For complete production workflows, pair it with Telestream's live production and streaming hardware in the Telestream collection at Creation Networks.

Key Features

  • Multi-format SDI support — Monitors SD-SDI (ITU-R BT.601), HD-SDI (SMPTE 292), and Dual Link (SMPTE 372) with automatic format detection, and adds 3G-SDI Level A/B with Option 3G.
  • Portable, battery-capable design — Runs on internal battery or DC input with an LED-backlit display, so signal verification can happen anywhere on site.
  • Eye and jitter measurement — Performs SDI physical-layer measurement on input A, reporting jitter above 1 UI with selectable filters from 10 Hz to 100 kHz (Option 3G required for 3G-SDI).
  • Cable-margin testing — Stress Loop connectors add simulated cable and an interfering signal so technicians can validate a signal path before deployment.
  • 16-channel audio monitoring — Supports embedded and AES/EBU audio with bar, surround, and Lissajous displays, plus an internal speaker and headphone output.
  • Patented Gamut and picture displays — Detects RGB and composite gamut errors and shows full-color picture with selectable Safe Action and Safe Title graticules.
  • 10,000-event error log — Records EDH/CRC and gamut errors with date, time, and time code for unattended monitoring and compliance documentation.
  • 32 transferable presets — Stores commonly used configurations that move between identical units via USB, with screenshot and log download over Ethernet.

Typical Applications

  • Broadcast studio — Routine calibration, QC, and signal verification of SD/HD/3G-SDI feeds.
  • Auditorium — Commissioning and maintenance of SDI infrastructure in large live-event venues.
  • House of worship — Field troubleshooting of multi-camera SDI production and streaming systems.
  • Government space — Installation and maintenance of SDI signal chains in command, briefing, and broadcast facilities.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the WFM2300 support 3G-SDI out of the box?
Standard configuration supports SD-SDI, HD-SDI, and Dual Link with automatic format detection. 3G-SDI (SMPTE 425/424 Level A and Level B) and the associated eye and jitter measurements require Option 3G.

Can it monitor audio without additional equipment?
Yes. It monitors up to 16 channels of embedded or AES/EBU audio with bar, surround, and Lissajous displays, and includes an internal speaker and headphone port. Option DBE adds Dolby E decoding and metadata display.

How does it integrate into an existing SDI signal chain?
The unit accepts SDI on Input A and the Multi Input (which also handles AES/EBU and LTC), provides switched SDI and AES test outputs, and accepts an external NTSC/PAL or tri-level sync reference. The Stress Loop connectors allow inline cable-margin testing within the same path.

Is it suitable for field installation and maintenance work?
Yes. The portable chassis runs on internal battery or DC input, and the SDI Status display reports signal strength, cable loss, and estimated cable length to support installation and maintenance applications away from a rack.

How are errors logged for compliance documentation?
The instrument maintains a 10,000-event error log that records EDH/CRC and gamut errors with date, time of day, and time code. Logs export to USB or over Ethernet in .TXT or .HTM format.

What warranty and support options are available?
The WFM2300 is supplied with the manufacturer's standard warranty. For coverage details, calibration, and support specific to your purchase, contact the Creation Networks team through our Telestream product page.
