The IF-AE16 installs in one of the two rear expansion slots on the DA-6400 or DA-6400dp and immediately adds 16 AES/EBU input channels and 16 AES/EBU output channels via D-Sub 25-pin connectors on the card's rear bracket. This format is standard on large-format digital consoles and digital audio workstation interfaces, making the IF-AE16 the direct connection path for studio environments where MADI or Dante is not in use. The card also supports connection to the Sonicview digital recording console series, extending its applicability beyond DA-6400 recording to broader Sonicview system expansion. Breakout cables or boxes that convert D-Sub 25-pin to XLR are available separately for installations requiring XLR-terminated AES/EBU connections.
