Product Overview
The SoundTube LA808i-II-BK is a purpose-designed low-frequency directivity extension (LFDE) module for SoundTube's LA Line Array system, working exclusively in conjunction with the LA880i-II 3-way line array loudspeaker. Rather than functioning as a standalone speaker or subwoofer, the LA808i-II extends the controlled directivity of the LA880i downward by up to one octave in the low-frequency range, significantly improving pattern control in reverberant commercial spaces where excessive low-frequency energy degrades speech intelligibility and music clarity. The unit shares the identical form factor and dimensions as the LA880i-II, allowing seamless stacking above or below the primary array without disrupting the visual line of the column installation. Finished in matte black and certified CE and RoHS, the LA808i-II-BK is engineered for professional AV installations in performing arts venues, houses of worship, conference centers, and large hospitality spaces.
Product Description
The SoundTube LA808i-II-BK employs eight 4.5-inch paper-cone woofers with rubber surrounds, each driven through a 12 dB-per-octave low-pass crossover network set at 500 Hz. This configuration achieves a nominal impedance of 4 ohms, with a maximum continuous RMS power rating of 300 watts and program power capacity of 500 watts — delivering substantial low-frequency output while remaining matched to the LA880i-II's amplifier channel requirements. The speaker's frequency response extends from 75 Hz to 22 kHz (±10 dB), with the usable ±3 dB window beginning at 83 Hz, providing controlled reproduction of fundamental bass frequencies and lower midrange content.
Directivity performance is characterized by a coverage angle of 103 degrees horizontal by 29 degrees vertical at 2 kHz (±6 dB), with a directivity factor (Q) of 9.1 and a directivity index (DI) of 12.6 dB averaged from 100 Hz to 10 kHz. This controlled pattern minimizes reflections from side walls and ceilings in difficult acoustic environments, making the LA808i-II particularly effective in large reverberant spaces such as stone or glass-walled sanctuaries, ballrooms, and airport terminal concourses. When a single LA808i-II is added to the LA880i-II, directivity control is extended approximately one octave lower compared to the LA880i-II operating alone; two units (one above and one below) can be deployed for even greater directivity extension.
The enclosure is constructed from a painted MDF and plywood composite, providing dimensional stability and rigidity required for precise line array element positioning. Input connectivity is handled via 4-pin 5.08mm Euroblock and SpeakON connectors, with included LINK side plates, jumper cable, safety bracket, and safety cable. The unit ships with all required hardware for installation directly above or below the companion LA880i-II, and a comprehensive range of optional accessories — including fly brackets, surface mount brackets, back plates, and pole mount adapters — supports both permanent rigging and surface-mounted applications.

- Directivity Index 12.6 dB (Q = 9.1) — High directivity index focuses sound energy toward the listening audience rather than reflective surfaces, improving the direct-to-reverberant ratio.
- Identical Form Factor to LA880i-II — Shares the same 81.8" height and 8.24" width as the companion array, enabling seamless stacking without visual discontinuity in the column installation.
- 500 Hz Low-Pass Crossover (12 dB/octave) — Properly bandlimited crossover ensures clean transition between the LA808i-II's low-frequency output and the LA880i-II's full-range reproduction.
- Euroblock + SpeakON Inputs — Dual input connector types provide installation flexibility and compatibility with standard commercial AV amplifier outputs and cabling.
- CE and RoHS Certified — Meets European safety and environmental standards, supporting international project specifications and environmentally responsible installations.
- Comprehensive Accessory Ecosystem — Full range of optional fly brackets, surface mount brackets, back plates, and pole adapters supports diverse rigging and mounting configurations.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the LA808i-II-BK a standalone speaker or a subwoofer?
- Neither. The LA808i-II-BK is a Low-Frequency Directivity Extension (LFDE) module that must be used exclusively in conjunction with the SoundTube LA880i-II 3-way line array. It is not a standalone loudspeaker and does not function independently as a subwoofer. Its purpose is to extend the directivity of the LA880i-II system downward in frequency, improving pattern control in reverberant environments.
- How many LA808i-II units can be added to a single LA880i-II?
- Up to two LA808i-II units can be added to a single LA880i-II installation — one placed directly above and one directly below the main array. A single LA808i-II unit extends directivity by up to one octave lower compared to the LA880i-II alone. Two units provide even greater low-frequency directivity extension for particularly challenging acoustic environments.
- Where must the LA808i-II be positioned relative to the LA880i-II?
- The LA808i-II must be placed either directly above or directly below the LA880i-II. Offset or non-adjacent placement will compromise the system's directivity performance and is not supported by SoundTube's design specifications.
- What types of venues benefit most from the LA808i-II?
- The LA808i-II is recommended for spaces with long reverberation times and problematic low-frequency energy buildup — including stone and glass-walled sanctuaries, large hotel ballrooms, airport concourses, convention centers, performing arts theaters, and sports arenas. In these environments, the LFDE module significantly improves speech intelligibility and music definition by controlling low-frequency dispersion.
- What amplifier is required to drive the LA808i-II?
- The LA808i-II has a nominal impedance of 4 ohms and requires an amplifier channel rated to handle a 4-ohm load. It accepts up to 300 watts RMS continuously and 500 watts program power. SoundTube recommends using a dedicated amplifier channel for the LA808i-II, separate from the LA880i-II, to allow independent level and DSP control of the low-frequency directivity module.
- What connectivity does the LA808i-II support?
- The LA808i-II accepts input via a 4-pin 5.08mm Euroblock connector and a SpeakON connector. Included LINK side plates and jumper cable facilitate signal chaining between the LA808i-II and the companion LA880i-II without additional cabling at the amplifier rack.
- Is the LA808i-II-BK available in white?
- Yes. The LA808i-II is available in both black (LA808i-II-BK) and white (LA808i-II-WH) to match the finish of the companion LA880i-II array and the installation environment.
- Does the LA808i-II ship with mounting hardware?
- Yes. The LA808i-II-BK includes a 4-pin Euroblock connector, jumper cable, LINK side plates, safety bracket, and safety cable. Optional accessories for fly rigging, surface mounting, back plates, and pole mounting are available separately through Creation Networks.
