SoundTube IPD-SM82-EZ-II IP-Addressable Dante Speaker — White

Overview

The SoundTube IPD-SM82-EZ-II in white is a Dante®-enabled surface-mount speaker with a full 8-inch woofer and a built-in 40 W PoE amplifier, delivering the output and low-frequency extension needed for larger commercial listening environments over a single Cat cable. As part of SoundTube's STNet IP-addressable series, it receives audio, power, and network control from any PoE/PoE+ switch, eliminating amplifier racks and simplifying distributed audio infrastructure. The white powder-coated aluminum grille blends naturally into light-colored architectural finishes — ideal for hotel ballrooms, worship auditoriums, corporate atriums, and retail environments.

Description

The IPD-SM82-EZ-II white features an 8-inch polypropylene-cone woofer with butyl rubber surround, crossed over at 2.5 kHz to a 1.0-inch soft-dome tweeter. In ported operation, frequency response extends from 38 Hz to 20 kHz (±10 dB) with a maximum SPL of 101 dB at one meter — delivering true full-range performance without a dedicated subwoofer in most commercial applications. Dispersion is 70° horizontal and 90° vertical (±6 dB @ 2 kHz), with directivity increasing at higher frequencies to maintain speech intelligibility at distance.

The included port plug converts the enclosure to sealed operation (50 Hz ±10 dB), tightening bass response for applications where low-frequency extension is less critical than clean transient performance. The pre-mountable surface-mount bracket enables installation crews to complete structural work ahead of speaker delivery. Power comes from IEEE 802.3at PoE+ (30 W) or up to 40 W with SoundTube's STNet Switch II; PoE++ is not supported.

The white powder-coated aluminum grille integrates discreetly into light-finish interiors. Certifications include UL 60065, CE, RoHS, and IP65. Optional accessories include a white weatherboot (WEATHERBOOT-S-WH) and additional port plugs (AC-SM8-PP). For pricing, availability, and project design assistance, visit creationnetworks.net.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the 8-inch model differ from the 5-inch surface-mount models?
The 8-inch woofer provides substantially more low-frequency extension — reaching 38 Hz (±10 dB) vs. ~55 Hz for 5-inch models — and delivers 4 dB more maximum SPL (101 dB vs. 97 dB). For large rooms, high-noise environments, or applications needing full-range music reproduction without a separate subwoofer, the SM82 is the appropriate choice.
What is the difference between ported and sealed mode?
In ported mode (port plug removed), the enclosure is tuned to extend bass to 38 Hz (±10 dB) — ideal for music playback and full-range BGM systems. Installing the port plug seals the enclosure, rolling off at 50 Hz (±10 dB) for tighter, more controlled bass useful in paging or speech-priority systems.
Is the white finish durable in high-traffic areas?
Yes. The white powder-coated aluminum grille is significantly more durable than painted plastic, and the high-impact polystyrene enclosure resists denting and cracking. The IP65 rating also means the enclosure is sealed against dust and water ingress for demanding environments.
Does this speaker require its own amplifier?
No. The integrated 40 W PoE amplifier draws power directly from the network switch. There is no separate amplifier, power supply, or speaker cable run required at the speaker location.
How are multiple speakers in a venue managed?
Each speaker is assigned a unique IP address and appears in SoundTube's STNet software. Volume levels, EQ, source routing, and zone groupings are all controlled remotely over the network — no physical intervention is needed after installation and commissioning.
What PoE level is needed?
Standard PoE+ (IEEE 802.3at) provides up to 30 W per port. For full 40 W amplifier headroom, use SoundTube's STNet Switch II. PoE++ (IEEE 802.3bt) is explicitly not compatible with this speaker series.
