SoundTube IPD-SM82-EZ-II IP-Addressable Dante Speaker — Black

Overview

The SoundTube IPD-SM82-EZ-II in black is a Dante®-enabled surface-mount speaker with an 8-inch woofer and a built-in 40 W PoE amplifier — delivering the output levels and low-frequency extension required for larger commercial spaces without a separate amplifier enclosure. Like all SoundTube STNet speakers, it receives audio, power, and network control over a single standard Category cable, simplifying system infrastructure and commissioning. The black powder-coated aluminum grille integrates well into dark architectural environments, outdoor entertainment venues, and premium commercial AV installations.

Description

The IPD-SM82-EZ-II uses an 8-inch polypropylene-cone woofer with a butyl rubber surround and a 1.0-inch soft-dome tweeter, crossed over at 2.5 kHz with a 12 dB/octave 2nd-order network. Frequency response extends from 38 Hz to 20 kHz (±10 dB) in ported configuration — reaching down to sub-40 Hz territory normally reserved for subwoofers — with a maximum output of 101 dB SPL at one meter. This combination of extended low-end reach and high output makes the SM82-EZ-II appropriate for sports bars, large hospitality venues, auditoriums, and outdoor covered areas where a 5-inch speaker cannot fill the room.

Dispersion measures 70° horizontal and 90° vertical (±6 dB @ 2 kHz), with directivity factors that increase focus at higher frequencies to maintain intelligibility at distance. The pre-mountable surface-mount bracket allows installation crews to complete the structural mount before the speaker is on site. The port plug is included — installing it converts the enclosure to sealed operation (50 Hz ±10 dB), tightening the bass at the expense of low-frequency extension. Power is via IEEE 802.3at PoE+ (30 W) or up to 40 W with SoundTube's STNet Switch II; PoE++ is not compatible.

Certifications include UL 60065, CE, RoHS, and IP65. Optional accessories include a weatherboot (WEATHERBOOT-S-BK) and additional port plugs (AC-SM8-PP). For project pricing and design support, visit creationnetworks.net.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose an 8-inch model over a 5-inch surface-mount speaker?
The 8-inch woofer provides significantly more low-frequency extension (38 Hz vs. ~55 Hz ±10 dB) and 4 dB more maximum SPL (101 dB vs. 97 dB). For large spaces, high-ambient-noise environments, or applications requiring full-range music reproduction without a subwoofer, the SM82 is the appropriate choice.
What is the difference between ported and sealed mode?
In ported mode (port plug removed), the enclosure uses the tuned port to extend bass down to 38 Hz (±10 dB). With the port plug installed, the enclosure operates sealed, rolling off at 50 Hz (±10 dB) but with tighter, more controlled bass — preferred in some music-on-hold or paging applications.
Does this speaker need a separate amplifier?
No. The built-in 40 W PoE amplifier is powered from the network switch. No amplifier rack, speaker cable runs, or external power supplies are needed at the speaker location.
How is the speaker configured and zoned?
Each speaker has a unique IP address and is configured via SoundTube's STNet software. Volume, EQ, routing, and zone assignments are all managed remotely across the network — there are no local controls on the speaker itself.
Is the weatherboot required for outdoor installations?
The speaker is certified IP65 for dust and water ingress protection. The optional weatherboot (WEATHERBOOT-S-BK) provides additional mechanical protection of the rear enclosure and cable entry point in demanding outdoor environments such as loading docks or exposed covered areas.
What PoE standard is required?
Standard PoE+ (IEEE 802.3at) delivers up to 30 W. For full 40 W amplifier headroom, use SoundTube's STNet Switch II. PoE++ (IEEE 802.3bt) is not compatible with this speaker.
