Product Overview

The Soundcraft Ui16 is a 16-input remote-controlled digital mixer designed for AV installations and live sound applications where a traditional mixing console is not practical. Controlled entirely through a web browser on any iOS, Android, Windows, Mac, or Linux device, the Ui16 has no physical faders — all mixing is performed via tablet, smartphone, or laptop connected over Wi-Fi or Ethernet. It is particularly well suited for conference rooms, boardrooms, houses of worship, and government meeting spaces where an operator needs to mix audio from a distance without occupying front-of-house space. Built-in HARMAN signal processing from dbx, DigiTech, and Lexicon provides a professional processing chain within a compact rack-mount chassis.

Product Description

The Ui16 houses its audio I/O and processing in a rugged stagebox-format chassis measuring 483mm wide, making it straightforward to rack-mount or place at stage level near sources. Eight XLR combo mic/line inputs, four XLR mic inputs, and two Hi-Z instrument inputs cover a broad range of microphone and line-level sources. A stereo RCA line input and 2-channel USB media player round out the input complement. On the output side, the Ui16 provides four balanced XLR aux outputs, balanced stereo XLR and 1/4" main outputs, and two 1/4" headphone outputs with independent level control.

Signal processing is handled by HARMAN's integrated DSP, which includes dbx AFS2 automatic feedback suppression, DigiTech amp modeling, and Lexicon reverb, delay, and chorus effects on three dedicated FX buses. Each input channel carries a 4-band parametric EQ, high-pass filter, compressor, de-esser, and noise gate. All outputs have a 31-band graphic EQ, noise gate, and compressor. A real-time frequency analyzer (RTA) is available on both inputs and outputs for diagnostic and tuning purposes.

Up to 10 control devices can connect simultaneously, allowing multiple operators or performers to access their own monitor mixes independently. The Show/Snapshot recall system stores complete mixer states for quick recall between events or presenters. Security lockout features allow administrators to restrict device access to specific channels or functions, which is particularly valuable in government, corporate, and educational installations. Two-channel USB audio supports MP3, WAV, and AIFF playback as well as direct-to-USB recording. The Ui16 includes Ableton Live Lite. Available from Creation Networks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Soundcraft Ui16 require a dedicated app?
No. The Ui16 is controlled entirely through a standard web browser on any device — iOS, Android, Windows, Mac OS, or Linux. No proprietary app download is required.
How many people can control the Ui16 at once?
Up to 10 devices can connect and control the Ui16 simultaneously. This makes it practical for environments where performers need independent monitor control and a separate front-of-house mix engineer.
Is the Ui16 suitable for permanent conference room installation?
Yes. The rack-mount form factor (19" / 483mm wide), independent Ethernet control, security lockout, and snapshot recall make the Ui16 well suited for permanent AV installs in conference rooms, boardrooms, and government spaces.
What signal processing is built into the Ui16?
The Ui16 includes dbx AFS2 automatic feedback suppression, DigiTech amp modeling, and three dedicated Lexicon FX buses (reverb, delay, chorus), along with parametric EQ, compressor, de-esser, and noise gate per channel.
Can the Ui16 record audio directly?
Yes. The Ui16 supports 2-channel USB recording directly to a USB storage device, in MP3, WAV, or AIFF format.
What is the difference between the Ui16 and Ui12?
The Ui16 has 16 inputs (vs. 12 on the Ui12) and 4 XLR aux outputs (vs. 2 on the Ui12). Both share the same control platform, processing architecture, and form factor.
Does the Ui16 support phantom power?
Yes. Phantom power is fully recallable and remotely controllable on a per-channel basis through the web app interface.
