Product Overview
The Sound Control Technologies RC-SDA5+ is a BYOD camera bridge and extender that adds soft-codec capability to the RC5 (RemoteCam5) extension platform. Paired with an existing or new RC5-CE camera module, the RC-SDA5+ extends supported Ethernet-controlled PTZ cameras up to 100 meters over a single CAT cable, with Ethernet control, camera power, and HDMI carried over SCTLink. The bridge converts video and digital or analog audio to USB3 for Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and other soft-codec applications, and transcodes computer UVC PTZ commands to Ethernet for camera control.
Product Description
The RC-SDA5+ serves two deployment patterns. As a retrofit, the RC-SDA5+ HE module replaces the RC5-HE head end on an existing RC5 camera run — the installed RC5-CE camera module and CAT cabling stay in place — and the camera instantly becomes available to laptops and UC compute devices as a USB3 source. For new builds, complete kit variants bundle the RC-SDA5+ HE with an RC5-CE camera module, camera-specific cable set, and WPS-12 power supply: RC-SDA5+CW4 for the Cisco PTZ 4K, RC-SDA5+P60 for the Cisco Precision 60, RC-SDA5+P40 for Panasonic AW-series cameras, and RC-SDA5+UNI/URM/USM for multi-manufacturer lists covering AVer, ClearOne, Crestron, Lumens, Marshall, MaxHub, Minrray, PTZOptics, QSC, Sony, VHD, and more. Beyond USB conversion, the RC-SDA5+ provides dual video output paths from the video source (distribution amplifier function) and two independent RS-232 control inputs to the connected camera, supporting hybrid rooms where a hardware codec and a control system share the camera with soft-codec hosts. The base RC-SDA5+ ships as the HE module with USB-A to USB-A and USB-A to USB-C host cables. For RS-232 cameras on the RC4 platform, see the RC-SDA4+ BYOD camera bridge.
Key Features
- BYOD Soft-Codec Conversion — Converts video and digital or analog audio to USB3 for Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and other soft-codec platforms.
- UVC-to-Ethernet PTZ Control — Transcodes computer PTZ camera commands (UVC) to Ethernet so host applications can steer the far-end camera.
- Single-CAT Extension up to 100m — With an RC5-CE module, carries HDMI, Ethernet control, and camera power over one CAT cable run.
- Dual Video Outputs (DA) — Two video output paths from the source support hybrid hard-codec plus soft-codec room designs.
- Dual RS-232 Control Inputs — Two independent RS-232 inputs to the connected camera for control system integration.
- Retrofit-Friendly — Replaces the RC5-HE head end on existing RC5 runs while reusing the installed RC5-CE module and cabling.
- Complete Kit Options — Available as a standalone HE module or as full kits for Cisco PTZ 4K, Cisco Precision 60, Panasonic, and multi-manufacturer cameras.
- USB-A and USB-C Host Connectivity — Ships with USB-A to USB-A cable and USB-A to USB-C adapter cable.
Typical Applications
- Conference room converting an existing RC5-extended Cisco PTZ 4K or Precision 60 to USB for Teams or Zoom
- Boardroom hybrid design sharing one PTZ camera between a hardware codec and BYOD laptops
- All-hands room or auditorium presenting a distant PTZ camera to UC compute as a USB3 device
- Training room and multi-purpose room migrations from hardware codecs to soft-codec UC platforms
- Commercial meeting spaces standardizing BYOD camera connectivity across mixed camera brands

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the RC-SDA5+ and RC-SDA4+?
The RC-SDA5+ works with the RC5 platform and Ethernet-controlled cameras and adds dual video output paths plus two RS-232 control inputs; the RC-SDA4+ works with the RC4 platform and RS-232 controlled cameras. Match the bridge to your installed extension platform and camera control type.
Can I reuse my existing RC5 installation?
Yes. The RC-SDA5+ HE module replaces the RC5-HE head end while the installed RC5-CE camera module and CAT cabling remain in place, adding USB3 soft-codec capability without rewiring the camera.
Which soft-codec platforms are supported?
The RC-SDA5+ presents the camera as a standard USB3 device for Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and other UC applications. USB drivers are typically not needed; Windows drivers are available from the vendor if required.
Does the base RC-SDA5+ include a camera module?
No. The base SKU is the head-end bridge with USB host cables. Full extension kits (CW4, P60, P40, UNI, URM, USM variants) bundle the RC5-CE camera module, camera-specific cables, and WPS-12 power supply.
Can a hardware codec and a laptop share the same camera?
Yes. The dual video output paths and independent RS-232 control inputs let hybrid rooms route the camera to both a hard codec and a soft-codec host.
