Product Overview
The Sound Control Technologies RC-SDA4+ is a BYOD camera bridge and extender that adds soft-codec capability to the RC4 (RemoteCam4) extension platform. Designed for RS-232 controlled PTZ cameras, the RC-SDA4+ head-end module converts camera video, control, and audio to USB 3.0 for Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and other soft-codec applications. Paired with an RC4-CE camera module over SCTLink, it delivers 12V DC power, video, and RS-232 control to the camera through a single CAT cable up to 100 meters — turning any supported hard-codec camera run into a USB conference camera.
Product Description
Many organizations have RC4 camera extension runs installed for hardware codec rooms and now need those same cameras available to laptops and UC compute devices running Zoom or Teams. The RC-SDA4+ answers both retrofit and new-build cases. As a retrofit, the RC-SDA4+ HE module replaces the existing RC4-HE head end while the installed RC4-CE camera module and CAT run stay in place; the bridge then presents the camera to a host PC as a USB 3.0 device, converting computer PTZ commands to RS-232 for camera control. For new installations, complete kit variants bundle the RC-SDA4+ HE with an RC4-CE camera module, camera-specific cable set, and power supply — including the RC-SDA4+E4P for the Poly EagleEye IV, RC-SDA4+P40 for Panasonic AW-series cameras, and RC-SDA4+UNI/URM/USM for multi-manufacturer camera lists spanning AVer, Lumens, Marshall, Minrray, PTZOptics, Sony, VHD, and more. The base RC-SDA4+ ships as the HE module with USB-A to USB-A and USB-A to USB-C host cables. For Ethernet-controlled cameras on the RC5 platform, see the RC-SDA5+ BYOD camera bridge.
Key Features
- BYOD Soft-Codec Conversion — Converts camera video, RS-232 control, and audio to USB 3.0 for Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and other soft-codec platforms.
- UVC PTZ Control Transcoding — Translates computer PTZ camera commands to RS-232 so the host application can steer the far-end camera.
- Single-CAT Extension up to 100m — With an RC4-CE module, delivers 12V DC power, video, and RS-232 control over one CAT cable run.
- Retrofit-Friendly — Replaces the RC4-HE head end on existing RC4 installations while reusing the installed RC4-CE module and cabling.
- Complete Kit Options — Available as a standalone HE module or as full kits for Poly EagleEye IV, Panasonic, and multi-manufacturer cameras.
- USB-A and USB-C Host Connectivity — Ships with USB-A to USB-A cable and USB-A to USB-C adapter cable for laptop and UC compute hosts.
- No Programming Required — Plug-and-play operation with field-upgradeable configuration support.
Typical Applications
- Conference room converting an existing RC4-extended PTZ camera to USB for Teams or Zoom Rooms
- Boardroom adding BYOD laptop connectivity alongside an installed hard-codec camera run
- Training room or multi-purpose room presenting a distant PTZ camera to room PCs as a USB device
- Huddle room and commercial meeting space migrations from hardware codecs to soft-codec UC platforms
- Government space requiring USB camera feeds from cameras mounted far beyond native USB distance

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the RC-SDA4+ and RC-SDA5+?
The RC-SDA4+ works with the RC4 platform and RS-232 controlled cameras; the RC-SDA5+ works with the RC5 platform and Ethernet-controlled cameras and adds dual video output paths. Match the bridge to your installed extension platform and camera control type.
Can I reuse my existing RC4 installation?
Yes. The RC-SDA4+ HE module replaces the RC4-HE head end while the installed RC4-CE camera module and CAT cabling remain in place, adding USB soft-codec capability without rewiring the camera.
Which soft-codec platforms are supported?
The RC-SDA4+ presents the camera as a standard USB 3.0 device, supporting Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and other UC applications. USB drivers are typically not needed; Windows drivers are available from the vendor if required.
Does the base RC-SDA4+ include a camera module?
No. The base SKU is the head-end bridge with USB host cables. Full extension kits (E4P, P40, UNI, URM, USM variants) bundle the RC4-CE camera module, camera-specific cables, and WPS-12 power supply.
Is the CAT cable included?
No. The CAT run between the RC-SDA4+ HE and the RC4-CE camera module is installer-supplied. CAT5e or better is recommended, with a 100-meter maximum.
