Product Overview

The Sony VPL-GTZ380/P is Sony's flagship 4K SXRD laser projector, delivering 10,000 ANSI lumens at native DCI 4K (4096 x 2160) with a 100% DCI-P3 wide color gamut. A three-channel light source — adding a dedicated red laser to Sony's blue laser and Z-Phosphor — achieves that full gamut without sacrificing brightness, while X1 Ultimate for projector processing brings BRAVIA-class HDR and object-based enhancement to the screen. Built for premium cinema, showrooms, galleries, museums, simulation, and high-end corporate spaces, it is sold as a body only (no lens).

Product Description

The VPL-GTZ380 uses a 3-chip 0.74" SXRD (Silicon X-tal Reflective Display) LCoS system at native 4096 x 2160 (DCI 4K) resolution — 8.8 million pixels — for deep blacks, smooth cinematic motion, and 10-bit color (1.07 billion colors). Its three-channel laser light source produces 10,000 lumens and a 100% DCI-P3 gamut, and supports input up to DCI 4K at 120 Hz. X1 Ultimate for projector, adapted from Sony's professional television processing, drives three picture technologies: Object-based HDR Remaster analyzes individual on-screen objects and adjusts their contrast independently rather than along a single contrast curve; Dynamic HDR Enhancer processes HDR scene by scene with laser output control to make bright scenes brighter and dark scenes darker; and Object-based Super Resolution detects hundreds of objects and enhances their resolution individually using paired reference databases for noise reduction and upscaling. The projector accepts HDR10 and Hybrid Log-Gamma, has a contrast ratio of 16,000:1, and offers low input latency (21.5–73.1 ms) for responsive use. The Z-Phosphor laser light source is rated up to 20,000 hours at full brightness with virtually no maintenance and no lamp replacement. Connectivity includes 2x HDMI, 2x DisplayPort, RS-232, RJ45, 12 V triggers, and 3D sync, with HDCP 2.3. It weighs 51 kg (112.4 lb) and runs on 100–240 VAC. This is the body only; lenses are sold separately.

The VPL-GTZ380's distinguishing strengths are its very high 10,000-lumen output at native DCI 4K with a full 100% DCI-P3 gamut and Sony's X1 Ultimate object-based processing — a combination aimed at large premium screens where brightness and color volume both matter. JVC D-ILA flagships are strong where the deepest native contrast at lower brightness is the priority, and Barco/Christie units serve large-venue and specialist installations; confirm current competitor specifications before deciding.
