Product Overview

The Sony ILME-FR7 is a full-frame Cinema Line PTZ camera that brings interchangeable E-mount lenses and cinematic image quality to a remote-operated body. Its 35.6 x 23.8mm full-frame sensor delivers 15+ stops of dynamic range and up to UHD 4K120 capture, with S-Cinetone, Cine EI, and user MLUTs for matching other Sony Cinema Line cameras. With 12G-SDI, HDMI, and IP streaming (NDI|HX / RTSP / SRT), PoE++, genlock, timecode, and tally, it is built for film and episodic production, live events, sports, and houses of worship. Sold as body only.

Product Description

The FR7 combines a 35.6 x 23.8mm full-frame CMOS sensor (10.3 MP effective) with a Sony E-mount, accepting a wide range of interchangeable lenses with autofocus support and 627-point phase-detection AF. It captures up to UHD 4K120 with 15+ stops of dynamic range, records XAVC-I and XAVC-L 10-bit internally to dual CFexpress Type A / SDXC slots, and outputs 16-bit raw over 12G-SDI. S-Cinetone, Cine EI, and MLUT looks ease color matching with cameras such as the FX6 and VENICE. A built-in variable electronic ND filter manages exposure, and native ISO runs 800–12,800 (extendable to 320–409,600). PTZ motion is smooth and quiet across 340° pan and 225° tilt with 100 IP presets. Interfaces include 12G-SDI and HDMI outputs, an SFP cage, timecode and genlock BNCs, XLR 5-pin audio with phantom power, and RJ45 LAN/tally; IP streaming supports NDI|HX, RTSP, and SRT. The camera runs on PoE++ (802.3bt) or 19.5 VDC and is Netflix-approved. Body weight is 4.6 kg. This listing is for the camera body only; lenses are sold separately.

Competitor Comparison

Comparison of high-end PTZ cameras for broadcast and cinematic production. Competitor figures reflect published specifications and should be confirmed against the latest vendor sheets before purchase.

The FR7 is differentiated by its full-frame sensor, interchangeable lenses, 4K120 capture, and Cinema Line color, which place it in a more cinematic category than fixed-lens 1"-type broadcast PTZ cameras such as the AW-UE150 and CR-N700. Those remain strong choices where a fixed all-in-one zoom and lower cost are preferred.
