Product Overview

The Sony ILME-FR7K is the kit version of Sony's full-frame Cinema Line PTZ camera, bundling the FR7 body with the Sony FE PZ 28–135mm F4 G OSS power-zoom lens. The 35.6 x 23.8mm full-frame sensor delivers 15+ stops of dynamic range and up to UHD 4K120 capture, with S-Cinetone, S-Log3, and HLG, while the included constant-f/4 servo zoom gives remote-controllable framing from 28 to 135mm out of the box. With 12G-SDI, SFP+, HDMI, IP streaming, PoE++, genlock, timecode, and tally, it suits film and episodic production, live events, sports, and houses of worship.

Product Description

The FR7K pairs the FR7's full-frame CMOS sensor (10.3 MP effective) and Sony E-mount with the FE PZ 28–135mm F4 G OSS lens, a constant-aperture power zoom well suited to remote PTZ operation. The camera captures up to UHD 4K120 with 15+ stops of dynamic range, records XAVC-I and XAVC-L 10-bit internally to dual CFexpress Type A / SD slots, and outputs 16-bit raw over 12G-SDI. Gamma options include S-Cinetone, S-Log3, HLG, Rec709, and Standard for grading flexibility and matching other Sony cameras, and 627-point phase-detection autofocus supports the interchangeable E-mount system. A built-in variable electronic ND filter (2–7 stops) manages exposure independently of depth of field. PTZ motion spans 340° pan and 225° tilt at 0.02–60°/sec with 100 IP presets. Outputs include 12G-SDI, SFP+, and HDMI; IP streaming supports NDI|HX (NewTek license), RTSP, and SRT; and genlock, timecode, XLR 5-pin audio with phantom power, and RJ45 LAN/tally enable multi-camera production. Control is via the included IR remote, web app, or the optional RM-IP500 panel. The camera runs on PoE++ (802.3bt) or 19.5 VDC, operates at NC35 acoustic noise, and is Netflix-approved.

Competitor Comparison

Comparison of high-end PTZ cameras for broadcast and cinematic production. The FR7K is sold with a lens; competitor figures reflect published specifications and should be confirmed against the latest vendor sheets before purchase.

The FR7K is differentiated by its full-frame sensor, an included constant-f/4 power zoom, 4K120 capture, and Cinema Line color, placing it in a more cinematic category than fixed-lens 1"-type broadcast PTZ cameras such as the AW-UE150 and CR-N700. Those remain strong choices where a fixed all-in-one zoom and lower cost are preferred.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the FR7K differ from the FR7?
The FR7K kit includes the Sony FE PZ 28–135mm F4 G OSS power-zoom lens; the FR7 is body only. The camera is otherwise identical.

Why a power-zoom lens for a PTZ camera?
The 28–135mm is a servo (power) zoom with a constant f/4 aperture, so zoom can be driven remotely along with pan and tilt — well matched to remote operation.

Can it record internally and output raw?
Yes. It records XAVC-I / XAVC-L to dual CFexpress Type A / SD cards and outputs 16-bit raw over 12G-SDI.

How is it controlled and powered?
Via the included IR remote, a browser web app, or the optional RM-IP500 panel; powered by PoE++ (802.3bt) or 19.5 VDC, with genlock, timecode, and tally for multi-camera work.

Is it approved for high-end productions?
Yes, it is Netflix-approved. For warranty and support, see Creation Networks at creationnetworks.net/collections/sony.
