Product Overview
The Shure ULXD4Q is a four-channel, 1RU digital wireless receiver for the ULX-D system, delivering four independent channels of digital audio in a space-efficient all-metal rack chassis. Operating in the J50A band (554–616 MHz), it provides uncompromising audio quality, advanced RF diversity, and AES 256 encryption for secure wireless deployments. With support for High Density mode and Wireless Workbench 6 integration, the ULXD4Q quad-channel wireless receiver is the system core for multi-channel wireless installations in boardrooms, conference venues, houses of worship, and broadcast environments.
Product Description
Each of the ULXD4Q's four receiver channels operates independently with its own Digital Predictive Switching Diversity for reliable RF performance, dedicated XLR balanced audio output, individual LED metering, and per-channel gain control of up to 60 dB. Audio summing routes two or more channels to combined outputs, enabling monitor mixes or zone feeds without external mixing. In High Density mode, up to 63 active transmitters can operate in a single 8 MHz TV channel, making it suitable for large-scale government, conference, and event deployments where spectrum is constrained. Wireless Workbench 6 (WWB6) software provides centralized frequency coordination, monitoring, and remote control for multi-channel and multi-room wireless systems. Compatible with ULXD6/O wireless boundary transmitters for conference table deployments: ULXD6W/O Boundary Mic Transmitter (White).
Key Features
- Four Independent Receiver Channels in 1RU — Houses four complete ULX-D receivers in a single rack unit, maximizing channel density in permanent AV installations and touring racks.
- Digital Predictive Switching Diversity — Advanced diversity algorithm continuously evaluates antenna signals and switches transparently before RF dropout can occur, ensuring uninterrupted audio in challenging RF environments.
- High Density Mode — Enables up to 63 simultaneous active transmitters in one 8 MHz TV channel, supporting large-scale conference, government, and event wireless deployments in spectrum-constrained environments.
- AES 256 Encryption — End-to-end audio encryption protects sensitive communications in government spaces, boardrooms, and secure meeting environments.
- Per-Channel Gain Control (up to 60 dB) — Individual gain adjustments on each of the four channels ensure consistent output levels regardless of source microphone type or transmitter setting.
- Audio Summing — Routes multiple receiver channels to combined XLR outputs for monitor mixes or zone distribution without requiring external summing hardware.
- Wireless Workbench 6 Integration — Full WWB6 compatibility enables networked frequency coordination, live RF monitoring, and remote gain/mute control from an AV control room or IT management station.
- Balanced XLR Outputs per Channel — Each of the four channels has a dedicated balanced XLR audio output for clean connection to mixing consoles, DSPs, and audio distribution systems.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many transmitters can operate with one ULXD4Q?
The ULXD4Q has four receiver channels. In a High Density configuration (HD mode), up to 63 transmitters can be active in the same 8 MHz TV channel across multiple units. For large-scale deployments, multiple ULXD4Q receivers can be coordinated through Wireless Workbench 6.
Is the ULXD4Q compatible with QLX-D transmitters?
No. The ULXD4Q is a ULX-D receiver and requires ULX-D transmitters (ULXD1, ULXD2, ULXD3, ULXD6, ULXD8). It is not compatible with QLX-D, SLX-D, or Axient Digital transmitters.
Does the ULXD4Q support network-based control?
Yes. The ULXD4Q supports Wireless Workbench 6 (WWB6) over Ethernet for centralized frequency coordination, RF monitoring, and remote gain/mute control—essential for large fixed-installation AV systems.
Can the ULXD4Q sum audio from multiple channels?
Yes. The audio summing feature routes two or more receiver channels to combined output pairs, useful for zone audio distribution or creating a monitor feed without additional mixing hardware.
What antenna system is recommended for the ULXD4Q?
For fixed installations, Shure's UA844 antenna distributor (or similar) is commonly used to distribute signals from remote-mounted directional or omnidirectional antennas to multiple receivers. Remote antenna placement optimizes coverage in large rooms and across multiple floors.
