Product Overview
The Shure SCM262 is a half-rack stereo mixer designed to integrate professional microphones with background music sources in commercial sound reinforcement installations. With two active-balanced microphone inputs, three stereo RCA auxiliary inputs, independently switchable ducking per mic channel, and a 12 V phantom power supply for condenser microphones, it is purpose-built for paging-over-background-music applications in restaurants, corporate training rooms, atriums, retail environments, and classroom AV systems. Stereo balanced 1/4" MIC/LINE outputs connect directly to professional power amplifiers; stereo RCA AUX outputs feed consumer-grade amplifiers.
Product Description
The SCM262's DIP switch configuration enables three distinct operating modes without external processors: standard paging with ducking (MIC activity automatically lowers program music by -20 dB or to silence), Jukebox Mute (any source on STEREO 3 automatically mutes STEREO 1 and 2 inputs for 30 seconds), and standard mix without ducking. Internal 80 Hz low-cut filters on both mic channels reduce low-frequency room noise and handling noise. The half-rack chassis can be installed as a single unit in a rack space using the included half-rack bracket or dual-mounted side-by-side with a second SCM262 or the SCM268 to occupy a single rack unit. Bass and Treble shelving EQ on the master output provides up to ±6 dB of tonal shaping.
Key Features
- 2 Active-Balanced Microphone Inputs — XLR input on CH 1; XLR and 1/4" TRS line-level input on CH 2, both with active-balanced circuitry for maximum noise rejection in long commercial cable runs.
- 3 Stereo Aux Inputs — Three pairs of unbalanced RCA inputs accept CD players, media players, and other consumer stereo sources for background music feeds.
- Defeatable Ducking per Mic Channel — DIP switch-configurable automatic ducking reduces stereo aux gain by -20 dB or to silence (DIP 5) when a microphone is active; 10 ms activation, 2-second deactivation.
- Jukebox Mute Function — STEREO 3 input triggers automatic muting of STEREO 1 and 2 for 30 seconds, enabling priority switching between background music sources.
- 12 V Phantom Power — Internal 12 V phantom power (DIP switch-enabled) powers condenser microphones without affecting dynamic microphones on the same input.
- Stereo Balanced and Unbalanced Outputs — Balanced 1/4" MIC/LINE outputs feed professional power amplifiers; unbalanced RCA AUX outputs feed consumer-grade equipment simultaneously.
- Bass and Treble Shelving EQ — ±6 dB shelving filters at 250 Hz (bass) and 4 kHz (treble) on the master output for tonal adjustment in commercial room acoustics.
- Half-Rack Single or Dual Mount — Included brackets support single half-rack or dual rack-mount installation with a second SCM262 or SCM268 in a single rack space.
Typical Applications
- Restaurant and retail background music with paging/announcement integration
- Corporate training room and boardroom paging-over-music AV systems
- Commercial meeting space and atrium background music with microphone priority
- Classroom and lecture hall microphone integration with program audio
- House of worship foyer and overflow room background audio with live feed switching

Frequently Asked Questions
What is ducking and how does it work on the SCM262?
Ducking automatically reduces the gain of all three stereo aux (background music) inputs when a microphone signal is detected on CH1 or CH2. DIP switch 5 sets the reduction level to either -20 dB (program music is audible but quieter) or -∞dB (program music mutes completely). Activation time is 10 ms; release time is 2 seconds after the mic signal stops. Ducking is enabled per channel via DIP switches 3 and 4.
Can I use the SCM262 with a condenser microphone?
Yes. DIP switch 7 activates 12 V phantom power on the mic inputs. Note that Shure’s phantom power is 12 V, not the standard 48 V; verify condenser microphone compatibility before deployment. Dynamic microphones are unaffected when phantom power is active.
Can the SCM262 be rack-mounted?
Yes. The SCM262 is a half-rack unit (8.60 in. wide) and ships with mounting hardware for single half-rack installation or dual-mount with a second SCM262 or the Shure SCM268 to fill a single rack space.
What is the Jukebox Mute function?
Any audio source connected to the STEREO 3 input will automatically mute STEREO 1 and 2 for approximately 30 seconds after the STEREO 3 signal ends. This enables automatic program priority switching—for example, between a background music player and a high-priority audio source—without manual operator intervention.
