Product Overview
The Shure MX392BE is a Microflex surface-mount electret condenser boundary microphone with a bottom-exit cable configuration, designed for conference table and furniture-recessed installations where the cable must be routed through the table surface rather than exiting from the side. The bottom-exit design eliminates visible surface-run cables in custom millwork, glass, and laminate conference table surfaces, meeting the aesthetic requirements of executive boardrooms, government conference facilities, and architecturally sensitive commercial AV installations. An internal preamplifier, programmable mute button with LED, logic input/output for automatic mixer integration, and interchangeable cardioid (/C), supercardioid (/S), or omnidirectional (/O) cartridges provide the same functionality as the standard MX392 in a cable-concealed configuration. Pressure-sensitive adhesive mounting (with included alcohol wipe) enables installation without visible fasteners.
Product Description
The MX392BE uses the same electret condenser transducer platform as the MX392, with a frequency response of 50 Hz to 17,000 Hz, 180 Ω active balanced output, 96 dB dynamic range, and RF filtering. The distinction from the standard MX392 is the bottom-exit cable routing through a 1/2-inch (12.7 mm) drilled hole in the mounting surface, keeping the table surface free of visible cabling. The pressure-sensitive adhesive mounting system secures the microphone without screws or visible hardware, and the included alcohol wipe ensures proper surface preparation for adhesion. All MX392BE variants support logic wiring for automatic mixer gating, and the DIP-switch configurable mute button covers push-to-mute, push-to-talk, and toggle operation modes for professional conferencing workflows.
For standard side-exit cable installations, see the Shure MX392 Microflex boundary condenser microphone at Creation Networks. For installations requiring a detachable cable, see the Shure MX393 Microflex boundary microphone.
Key Features
- Bottom-Exit Cable Configuration — Routes the cable through a 1/2-inch hole in the table or mounting surface, eliminating visible surface-run cables for clean installations in executive conference rooms, government facilities, and custom millwork environments.
- Adhesive Mounting for Tool-Free Installation — Pressure-sensitive adhesive secures the microphone without screws or visible fasteners; includes an alcohol wipe for surface preparation prior to installation.
- Boundary Effect Surface-Mount Design — Placement on a flat surface achieves 6 dB higher sensitivity and approximately 3 dB better direct-to-reverberant sound ratio versus overhead placement at equivalent distance, improving speech intelligibility in reverberant rooms.
- Interchangeable Cartridges — Cardioid, supercardioid, and omnidirectional cartridges are field-swappable for polar pattern reconfiguration without replacing the installed housing.
- Programmable Mute Button and LED — DIP switch-configurable for push-to-mute, push-to-talk, or toggle modes with LED status indication for professional conference room operation.
- Logic Input/Output for Automatic Mixer Integration — Logic wiring supports gate control from automatic mixing systems and DSP platforms for managed room audio workflows.
- Active Balanced Output — 180 Ω active balanced output with RF filtering for reliable performance in facilities with dense wireless and IT infrastructure.
- Paintable Housing — Housing can be surface-painted to match custom conference table finishes; includes a paint mask accessory to protect the capsule during painting.
Typical Applications
- Executive boardroom and custom millwork conference table installations
- Government conference room and sensitive-use facility audio
- Commercial meeting room table-embedded boundary microphone systems
- Multi-purpose room and training room installations with cable-concealed furniture
- Lectern and stage floor installations requiring bottom-exit cable routing

Frequently Asked Questions
How is the MX392BE different from the standard MX392?
The MX392BE has a bottom-exit cable configuration that routes the cable through a 1/2-inch hole drilled in the mounting surface, keeping the table surface free of visible cables. The standard MX392 has a side-exit cable. Both share identical audio specifications, mute button functionality, logic wiring, and interchangeable cartridge compatibility. The MX392BE also uses adhesive mounting rather than key-hole screws.
How much of a hole is required to install the MX392BE?
A 1/2-inch (12.7 mm) circular hole is required in the mounting surface for the bottom-exit cable routing. Drill the hole, route the cable, then apply the pressure-sensitive adhesive (thoroughly clean the surface first with the included alcohol wipe) and press the microphone firmly into position. Note that the adhesive is extremely difficult to reposition once pressure is applied.
Can the MX392BE mute button be disabled for automatic mixer control?
Yes. Set DIP switch 3 to ON to disable the mute button so the microphone passes audio regardless of button presses. This allows the automatic mixer (or DSP) to control audio gating via the logic wiring, while the LED IN connection can illuminate the LED when the channel is gated on by the automatic mixer.
Can the MX392BE housing be painted for custom finishes?
Yes. The housing can be surface-painted to match custom table or architectural finishes. Use the supplied paint mask to protect the capsule, apply paint in thin layers to avoid filling the grille holes, and remove paint from the bottom grille edges to maintain electrical shielding continuity.
What cartridges are compatible with the MX392BE?
The MX392BE accepts standard Shure Microflex interchangeable cartridges: cardioid (/C), supercardioid (/S), and omnidirectional (/O). Cartridges are the same across the MX392, MX392BE, and MX393 product families.
