Product Overview
The Shure A15AS is an in-line switchable attenuator that reduces the level of any balanced microphone or line-level signal by 15, 20, or 25 dB. It passes phantom power, so it can sit in the signal path ahead of a condenser microphone or between a hot source and a sensitive input without breaking powering. AV integrators use the A15AS to tame strong sources — close-miked instruments, line outputs, and loud presenters — before they overload a mixer or DSP input in a commercial install.
Product Description
The A15AS installs in-line on a balanced XLR connection and provides three switch-selectable attenuation values (15, 20, and 25 dB), letting a technician match the pad to the source during setup. Because it passes phantom power through to the source, it works in front of phantom-powered condenser microphones and active DI sources without interrupting their supply. This makes it a practical tool for conference rooms, houses of worship, and broadcast studios where a microphone or line source is too hot for the available input and a fixed mixer pad is unavailable or insufficient. The all-passive design needs no battery and adds no active circuitry to the signal path, so it can be left permanently in the install or carried in a rack/road kit for troubleshooting gain-structure problems.
Key Features
- Three Switchable Pad Values — Selectable 15, 20, or 25 dB attenuation lets a technician match the pad to the source level during system setup.
- Passes Phantom Power — Phantom power passes through to the source, so the attenuator can sit ahead of condenser microphones and active DIs without breaking powering.
- Balanced In-Line Design — It inserts directly into a balanced XLR run, correcting gain structure at the point of the problem without a separate device.
- Passive Operation — No battery or power is required, making it reliable for permanent installation or portable troubleshooting.
