The MKE 40-ew is a professional clip-on cardioid condenser microphone designed for use with Sennheiser EW Series bodypack transmitters via its TRS EW connector. Unlike omnidirectional lavaliers, the MKE 40-ew provides a cardioid polar pattern that focuses pickup on the front of the capsule, delivering significantly better rejection of ambient noise and stage feedback. This makes it an excellent choice for instrument clip-on applications—particularly for woodwind, brass, string, and acoustic string instruments—where close miking with directional control is essential for clean wireless audio in loud stage environments.
