Product Overview

The Sennheiser EW-DX MKE 2 SET is a complete dual-channel digital UHF wireless system configured for two-presenter or two-performer deployments straight out of the box. The set includes a 2-channel EW-DX receiver, two EW-DX bodypack transmitters, and two MKE 2 omnidirectional lavalier microphones — one of Sennheiser's most widely used broadcast lavalieres. With 134 dB of dynamic range, 1.9 ms latency, and AES 256 encryption, this dual-channel wireless lavalier system is suited for broadcast studios, houses of worship, corporate AV, and live stage applications where audio quality and channel reliability are both critical.

Product Description

The EW-DX platform operates across an 80 MHz tuning range with 3,200 selectable frequencies on a 25 kHz equidistant grid. Intelligent switching diversity and auto-scan ensure the system finds and locks to clean RF channels even in congested venues. In Link Density mode, the system supports up to 269 simultaneous transmitters within the same band — a number relevant for large multi-channel installations in auditoriums, broadcast facilities, and convention centers.

The included MKE 2 lavalier microphones are electret condenser capsules with an omnidirectional polar pattern, 20 Hz–20 kHz frequency range, 142 dB SPL handling, and 5 mV/Pa sensitivity at 1 kHz. The 5.2-foot cable terminates in a locking 3.5 mm TRS connector for secure connection to the EW-DX bodypack. The bodypack transmitters feature e-Ink displays and metal housings. Each transmitter runs up to 12 hours on the included Sennheiser rechargeable battery pack, or up to 8 hours on two AA alkaline batteries.

System setup and remote control are handled via Bluetooth 5.1 LE through the Sennheiser Smart Assist app (iOS and Android), with a Bluetooth sync range up to 120 feet. For larger networked installations, Sennheiser's Control Cockpit and Wireless Systems Manager (WSM) software provide computer-based management via the receiver's RJ45 Ethernet port. The EW-DX receiver is backward-compatible with EW-D bodypack and handheld transmitters. The half-rack 1U receiver mounts in a standard rack with included hardware and offers two XLR balanced outputs plus two 1/4-inch unbalanced outputs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is included in the EW-DX MKE 2 SET?
The set includes one EW-DX 2-channel receiver, two EW-DX bodypack transmitters, and two MKE 2 omnidirectional lavalier microphones. A Sennheiser rechargeable battery pack is included per transmitter. Rack mount hardware and a power adapter are also included with the receiver.
Q: Is the EW-DX MKE 2 SET compatible with older EW-D transmitters?
Yes. The EW-DX receiver is backward-compatible with EW-D generation bodypack and handheld transmitters, which simplifies phased upgrades and mixed-fleet management.
Q: How many channels can operate simultaneously with this system?
In Link Density mode, up to 269 transmitters can operate simultaneously within the same frequency band. For standard deployments, the 80 MHz tuning range and 3,200 selectable frequencies provide ample channel separation for typical multi-channel AV installations.
Q: How does the Smart Assist app work with the EW-DX?
The Sennheiser Smart Assist app connects to the receiver and transmitters via Bluetooth 5.1 LE from an iOS or Android device up to 120 feet away. It handles transmitter sync, frequency coordination, and basic parameter adjustments without requiring a computer.
Q: What software options exist for larger networked EW-DX installations?
Sennheiser's Control Cockpit and Wireless Systems Manager (WSM) software connect via the receiver's RJ45 Ethernet port for computer-based management of multi-receiver systems. Both support frequency coordination, system monitoring, and firmware updates.
Q: What is the battery life for the EW-DX bodypack transmitters?
Each transmitter runs up to 12 hours on the included Sennheiser rechargeable battery pack. Using standard AA alkaline batteries (not included) provides approximately 8 hours of runtime.
Q: Does the EW-DX MKE 2 SET support AES 256 encryption?
Yes. AES 256-bit encryption is supported across all RF links in the EW-DX platform, covering both bodypack transmitter channels.
Q: Can additional channels be added to the EW-DX system?
Yes. Multiple EW-DX receivers can be networked together via RJ45 and managed centrally. Additional EW-DX bodypack or handheld transmitters can be added independently. Up to 269 channels are supported per frequency band in Link Density mode.
