Width drives this size. A conferencing soundbar or all-in-one video bar is long and shallow, and a 12 in platform leaves its ends unsupported. At 27 in the shelf carries the full span, which matters both for load distribution and for keeping the device level so its commissioned camera framing and audio coverage hold.

The same platform also suits rooms placing two or three appliances beside each other — a codec next to a wireless presentation receiver — instead of stacking them inside a cabinet where airflow is restricted.
