Product Overview
The Renkus-Heinz IC8-RD is a digitally steerable line array loudspeaker engineered to deliver intelligible speech and music in acoustically demanding rooms where conventional loudspeakers struggle. As part of the fifth-generation ICONYX platform, this beam steering column loudspeaker uses software-controlled DSP to aim sound directly at the audience and away from reflective ceilings, floors, and side walls. It is a proven choice for houses of worship, transportation terminals, government spaces, and reverberant commercial meeting spaces that demand precise vertical pattern control with an architecturally discreet footprint.
Product Description

The IC8-RD houses eight 4-inch coaxial transducers, each fitted with a triple 1-inch tweeter array (RH model SSL4-7), driven by eight dedicated amplifier and DSP channels. This "array within an array" design reduces the spacing between high-frequency sources, producing consistent, broad horizontal dispersion of 150 degrees up to 3 kHz and 120 degrees above 3 kHz. Up to four independent beams can be shaped and aimed from a single column, with vertical aiming adjustable from -30 degrees to +30 degrees and beam control effective down to 800 Hz. The slim, low-profile extruded aluminum enclosure measures just over 37 inches tall and sits nearly flush against architectural surfaces. RHAON II control and Dante audio transport share a single network connection, and the -RD designation adds dual-redundant Dante for mission-critical installations. The result is a steerable column array that places sound precisely where it is needed while remaining visually unobtrusive.
Key Features
- Digital Beam Steering — Up to four independent beams can be individually shaped, aimed, and leveled from a single column to match complex room geometry and multi-level seating.
- Triple-Tweeter Coaxial Transducers — Eight 4-inch coaxial drivers, each with three 1-inch tweeters, deliver consistent high-frequency coverage and broad, even horizontal dispersion.
- Eight Amplifier and DSP Channels — Dedicated per-transducer amplification and processing give the system designer precise control over beam shape and acoustic beam centers.
- Dual Redundant Dante — The -RD model carries audio and RHAON II control over a single redundant Dante network connection for added reliability in critical systems.
- RHAON II Network Control — Gain, mute, input selection, compression, 8-band parametric EQ, shelving and rolloff filters, delay, and preset configuration are all managed in software.
- Low-Profile Architectural Design — The extruded aluminum enclosure with perforated steel grille measures 37 11/16 in. H x 6 1/8 in. W x 7 5/16 in. D and mounts close to the wall.
- High Intelligibility in Reverberant Rooms — Beam control down to 800 Hz directs energy onto the audience and away from reflective surfaces, reducing reverberation and echo.
- Finish and Weather-Resistant Options — Standard white paint with optional black, custom color, and weather-resistant construction for varied install environments.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the IC8-RD connect into a networked AV system?
The IC8-RD provides analog and AES/EBU inputs plus dual-redundant Dante, carrying both audio and RHAON II control over the same Dante network connection. Dual RJ45 ports support Ethernet control and daisy-chaining within the network design.
What rooms is a beam-steering column like this best suited for?
It excels in reverberant or acoustically challenging spaces such as houses of worship, auditoriums, atriums, and government chambers, where steering sound onto the audience and away from hard surfaces improves speech intelligibility.
Do I need special software to configure it?
Yes. Beam aiming, opening angle, EQ, delay, and presets are configured in Renkus-Heinz RHAON II System Designer software over Ethernet. Renkus-Heinz also offers EASE Focus modeling to predict coverage before installation.
Can a single column cover multiple seating levels?
Yes. The DSP supports multiple beams and acoustic beam centers, allowing one column to direct separate beams toward different audience areas such as a main floor and balcony.
What warranty and support are available?
Warranty terms vary by configuration. Contact Creation Networks for current Renkus-Heinz warranty details, system design assistance, and post-installation support.
