What is the RDL RU2-CS1?
The RDL RU2-CS1 is an RS-232 serial control interface that lets a computer or control system operate RDL modules and OEM equipment. It provides eight open-collector outputs, eight 0 to 10 Vdc control outputs and eight status inputs. Commands can come from a terminal program or from user software over a standard serial link. It suits boardrooms, training rooms and auditoriums where VCA levels and system functions need computer control.
How does it work?

Each of the eight open-collector outputs can be activated or deactivated by command, all outputs can be switched together, and a pulse command gives a 100 ms pulse. Active outputs are pulled to ground, which suits triggering RDL modules and OEM control inputs. The eight 0 to 10 Vdc outputs control external VCAs, with ramp rates preset individually or globally and levels that can ramp or jump to a new value. Each 0 to 10 Vdc output can also be programmed for 0 to 5 Vdc without loss of resolution, and the unit can report when a ramp completes. The status inputs sense external switch or transistor closures and can raise an alert on any change of state, or when a defined pattern of all eight inputs occurs. The controlling computer can query one or all status inputs at any time. An initialization command sets all parameters to known values, and optional error codes help during software development. Front-panel LEDs show active outputs, active status inputs, transmit and receive data, errors and power. RDL recommends the PS-24AS power supply for the USA or the PS-24AX for international installations; the supply is not included.

Frequently Asked Questions
What can the RU2-CS1 control?
It drives eight open-collector outputs and eight 0 to 10 Vdc outputs, which can control RDL VCA modules or other equipment with 0 to 10 Vdc control inputs.
Does it need special software?
No. Commands may be sent from a terminal program or from user software over the RS-232 link.
Can it report input changes?
Yes. It can alert the computer when any status input changes state, or when a defined pattern of all eight inputs occurs, and inputs can also be queried.
Is the power supply included?
No. RDL recommends the PS-24AS power supply for the USA or the PS-24AX for international installations; the supply is not included.
How is it installed?
RDL describes the RU2-CS1 as suitable for free-standing or rack-mounted installation.
