RDL RU-SC2 – RS-232 to RS-422 Full-Duplex Serial Converter
What is the RDL RU-SC2?
The RDL RU-SC2 converts RS-232 to RS-422 so two RS-232 devices can communicate full-duplex over long cable runs. It is used in AV control systems where a control processor, projector or display sits far beyond the reach of a standard serial cable.
How does it work?
The RS-232 device connects on the front panel, while the RS-422 input, output and power connections are made on rear-panel full-size barrier block terminals. A pair of RU-SC2 units, one at each end of a 2-pair balanced twisted pair line, carries data between two RS-232 ports over much greater distances than conventional serial cables allow. The RACK-UP format fits rack-mount or free-standing installations. Power the module from ground-referenced 24 Vdc such as the RDL PS-24AX 24 Vdc power supply, and mount it with the RDL RC-1UR 19 in. rack chassis or the RU-BR1 mounting bracket.
What are the key features?
- RS-232 to RS-422 conversion — Converts between RS-232 and RS-422 for long-distance serial control.
- Full-duplex operation — Two units on a 2-pair twisted pair line pass data in both directions simultaneously.
- Extended distance — Serial communication runs far beyond the limits of conventional RS-232 cables.
- Barrier block terminals — Full-size, clearly identified rear terminals simplify RS-422 and power wiring.
- Rack-mountable — The RACK-UP format mounts in a rack or operates free-standing.
