What is the RDL RU-MLB4?
The RDL RU-MLB4 is a 4 x 4 mic/line Dante network interface that converts four microphone or line sources to Dante and returns four Dante channels to +4 dBu balanced line level. Automatic mic gain sets 40 dB for condenser mics and 60 dB for dynamic mics, so no user or installer gain adjustment is needed. It is built for equipment racks, closets, conference tables and shelves in commercial installations, powered from an external 24 Vdc supply.
How does it work?

Each of the four inputs has a rear-panel selector that sets it to mic or line. In mic mode the balanced input supplies P48 phantom power, and the preamplifier gain sets itself to 60 dB for a dynamic microphone or 40 dB for a condenser, staying active whenever microphones are changed. In line mode the balanced terminals accept a +4 dBu source and separate unbalanced terminals accept a -10 dBV source, both with more than 18 dB of headroom. On the output side, four Dante channels are converted to +4 dBu balanced line level for a -18 dBFS network level, with crosstalk below the noise floor and noise more than 80 dB below operating level. Front-panel signal LEDs show audio on every input and received Dante channel, so setup can be confirmed without a networked computer. The RU-MLB4 is powered from an external 24 Vdc supply; the RU-MLB4P version adds PoE. RDL recommends the PS-24AS (USA) or RDL PS-24AX (international) supply. The all-metal Rack-Up enclosure can stand free, mount to a surface with the RU-SMA1 mounting plate or RU-BR1 bracket, mount on DIN rail with the DRA-35R adapter, or mount in a rack with the RU-HRA1 or RC-1UR rack chassis. It is engineered and built in the U.S.A. for continuous duty.
What are the key features?
- 4 x 4 Dante I/O — Converts four mic or line inputs to Dante and four Dante channels to balanced line outputs.
- Automatic mic gain — Sets 40 dB for condenser and 60 dB for dynamic microphones with no adjustment.
- P48 phantom power — Phantom power is supplied on each input set to mic.
- Mic or line per input — A rear-panel selector sets each input for microphone or line operation.
- Balanced and unbalanced line inputs — Separate terminals accept +4 dBu balanced or -10 dBV unbalanced sources.
- +4 dBu outputs — Balanced outputs interface directly with professional equipment with more than 18 dB of headroom.
- Signal LEDs — Per-channel LEDs confirm input and output audio during commissioning.
- 24 Vdc powered — An external 24 Vdc supply powers the module and phantom loads.
- Rack-Up mounting — Free-standing, surface, DIN rail or rack mounting with RDL Rack-Up accessories.
Where is it typically used?

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to set mic gain?
No. Mic gain is automatic: 40 dB for condenser microphones and 60 dB for dynamic microphones.
Can each input take a line-level source?
Yes. A rear-panel selector sets each input to line, accepting +4 dBu balanced or -10 dBV unbalanced on separate terminals.
How is it powered?
From an external 24 Vdc supply at 180 mA plus phantom loads. The RU-MLB4P adds PoE.
Which power supply should I use?
RDL recommends the PS-24AS (USA) or PS-24AX (international) 24 Vdc supply.
