What is the RDL RU-MLB2?
The RDL RU-MLB2 is a RACK-UP bidirectional Dante interface that converts two microphone or line sources to Dante and two Dante channels to balanced line outputs. Automatic microphone gain means no user or installer gain adjustment is needed when microphones change. It is a straightforward way to connect wired microphones, mixers and amplifiers to a Dante network.
How does it work?

Each input has a rear-panel selector that the installer sets to mic or line. In the mic position the balanced input provides P48 phantom power to the microphone jack. Connecting a dynamic microphone sets the preamplifier gain to 60 dB, while a condenser microphone sets it to 40 dB, and the automatic gain setting stays active so users can swap microphones without adjustment. In the line position, the inputs accept unbalanced -10 dBV or balanced +4 dBu sources with more than 18 dB of headroom. A front-panel signal LED shows audio on each input. On the output side, two Dante channels are converted to balanced line outputs delivering +4 dBu for -18 dBFS network audio, with crosstalk below the noise floor. Conversion is 24-bit with RDL analog filtering, and LEDs show network sync. The RU-MLB2 runs from an external 24 Vdc supply; RDL recommends its PS-24AS (USA) or PS-24AX (international) 24 Vdc supply. RDL also offers the RU-MLB2P with PoE operation. The module mounts in a rack or on a surface with RDL RACK-UP accessories such as the RU-HRA1 10.4-inch rack mount, RC-1UR 19-inch universal rack chassis, RU-SMA1 surface mounting plate and RU-BR1 under-surface bracket.
What are the key features?
- 2x2 Dante interface — Two mic/line inputs to Dante and two Dante channels to line outputs.
- Automatic mic gain — 40 dB for condenser and 60 dB for dynamic microphones with no adjustment needed.
- P48 phantom — Phantom power is provided on each input set for mic.
- Mic or line inputs — Each input is switch-selectable, and line mode accepts -10 dBV or +4 dBu.
- Professional outputs — +4 dBu balanced outputs with more than 18 dB headroom.
- Rack or surface mount — Works with RDL RACK-UP mounting accessories.
Where is it typically used?
- Conference rooms and boardrooms

Frequently Asked Questions
How does automatic microphone gain work?
The RU-MLB2 sets 60 dB of gain when a dynamic microphone is connected and 40 dB for a condenser microphone, and this stays active so no adjustment is needed when microphones are changed.
Does the RU-MLB2 support PoE?
The RU-MLB2 runs from an external 24 Vdc supply. RDL offers the RU-MLB2P version for PoE operation.
What power supply should I use?
24 Vdc at 175 mA plus connected phantom loads. RDL recommends the PS-24AS (USA) or PS-24AX (international).
Can I use line-level sources?
Yes. Set the input selector to line to accept -10 dBV unbalanced or +4 dBu balanced sources.
