What is the RDL RU-MLA2?
The RDL RU-MLA2 is a two-channel mic/line preamplifier that brings microphones or line sources up to line or mic level for mixers, DSPs and recorders. Front-panel XLR jacks and rear detachable terminal blocks are active at the same time, which suits both patching and permanent wiring. Switch-selectable mic gain, 24 Vdc phantom power and per-output mic or line levels let one module handle dynamic and condenser microphones as well as line sources.
How does it work?
Each input has a rear-panel switch for MIC or LINE, plus switches for LO or HI mic gain and for 24 Vdc phantom power. The two mic gain ranges cover a wide variety of dynamic and condenser microphones, from -65 dBu to -3 dBu input for +4 dBu output. Each of the two outputs has its own rear-panel switch to set mic or line level, and outputs can be wired balanced or unbalanced. Crosstalk between channels is below the noise floor, so the RU-MLA2 can run as a stereo preamplifier or as two separate mono preamplifiers. A front-panel gain trim and dual-LED VU meter are provided for each channel, calibrated to +4 dBu for line-level outputs. Line frequency response runs 15 Hz to 50 kHz (±0.1 dB) with more than 20 dB of headroom above +4 dBu. The module can be rack-mounted with XLR jacks facing forward or reverse-mounted using the RDL RU-FP1 filler panel/reverse mount kit. A version with studio-quality output transformers is available as the RU-MLA2T. Power is ground-referenced 24 Vdc at 80 mA through a rear terminal block or power jack; RDL recommends the PS-24AS (USA) or PS-24AX (international) power supply, not included. Mount it with the RC-1UR 1RU rack chassis, RU-HRA1 10.4-inch rack mount or RU-SMA1 surface mounting plate.
