What is the RDL RU-ASX4D?
The RDL RU-ASX4D is a four-input, one-output stereo line-level audio selector with silent solid-state switching. It accepts balanced or unbalanced sources on detachable terminal blocks, with gain trim on each input and dual-LED VU metering on the output. Sources can be selected from the front panel or from one or more RDL remote controls.
How does it work?

Each of the four stereo inputs has a rear-panel gain trimmer that sets input levels between -15 dBV and +8 dBu to the proper operating level, with a maximum input of +25 dBu. Switching uses only solid-state circuitry for silent transitions between sources. In LOCAL mode, four front-panel pushbuttons select one input at a time, and pressing the active button again turns all inputs off. In REMOTE mode, inputs are selected by a sequential remote such as the RDL D-RCS4, a momentary remote such as the RDL D-RC4M, or an external open-collector closure to ground. The RU-ASX4D can be controlled from a single location or several, and it provides a 25 mA open-collector output for the selected source to control other equipment. Rear-panel DIP switches set remote mode, permanently enable the remote terminals and choose whether power-up returns to a preset source or the last source used. The stereo output can be wired balanced or unbalanced, and two dual-LED VU meters, front and rear, are calibrated to +4 dBu. It operates from 24 Vdc at 150 mA through a detachable terminal block; RDL recommends the PS-24AS (USA) or PS-24AX (international) power supply, not included. Mount it with the RC-1UR 1RU rack chassis, RU-HRA1 10.4-inch rack mount or RU-SMA1 surface mounting plate.
What are the key features?
- Four stereo inputs to one output — Line-level sources are selected one at a time to a stereo output.
- Silent solid-state switching — Switching uses only solid-state circuitry to avoid audible clicks.
- Local or remote control — Select sources from the front panel or from RDL D-RCS4 and D-RC4M remotes.
- Input gain trim — Each input has a trimmer for levels from -15 dBV to +8 dBu.
- Status output — A 25 mA open-collector output for the selected source can control other equipment.
- Power-up recall — DIP switches select a preset source or the last source used at power-up.
Where is it typically used?

- Boardroom
- Training room
- House of worship
- Auditorium
- Multi-purpose room

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the RU-ASX4D be controlled from a wall plate?
Yes. It works with RDL remotes such as the RDL D-RC4M and RDL D-RCS4, or with external open-collector closures.
Can I use balanced and unbalanced sources together?
Yes. Each input and the output can be connected balanced or unbalanced.
Will switching cause pops?
RDL designed the RU-ASX4D for silent switching using only solid-state circuitry.
Can it trigger other equipment when a source is selected?
Yes. It provides a 25 mA open-collector output for the selected input.
What happens after a power failure?
Rear-panel DIP switches set power-up to return to a pre-programmed source or the last source used.
Is a power supply included?
No. It needs 24 Vdc at 150 mA; RDL recommends the PS-24AS (USA) or PS-24AX (international) power supply, not included.
