What is the RDL PT-ASG1?
The RDL PT-ASG1 is a portable or benchtop audio oscillator that provides a stable 700 Hz signal for system verification, alignment and testing. Its balanced XLR output switches between mic and line level, with the line reference preset to +4 dBu or +6 dBu. It runs from an internal 9 V battery or an external 12 to 30 Vdc supply, and test leads and a bench support bracket are included.
How does it work?
The PT-ASG1 oscillator runs at 700 Hz, which is easy to listen to for long periods and easy to distinguish from 400 Hz or 1 kHz signals. The output is compared against an internal temperature-stable reference in a gain-controlled loop, giving output stability better than 0.01 dB. The balanced XLR output is switch-selectable on the front panel for MIC or LINE level. Line level is factory set to +4 dBu and can be changed to +6 dBu with a switch in the battery compartment. In MIC mode the output is -46 dBu, 50 dB below +4 dBu, and holds the same level into 200 Ω or higher-impedance preamps. A phono output provides a -10 dBV consumer-level signal. Power comes from an internal 9 V battery or an external 12 Vdc to 30 Vdc supply at 20 mA. Replacement test leads are offered by RDL as the PT-TLS1 (female XLR and clip leads) and PT-TLS2 (male XLR and clip leads).
