What is the RDL PT-AMG2?
The RDL PT-AMG2 is a portable audio test instrument that combines a precision 700 Hz oscillator, a level meter and a monitor speaker in one case. It lets installers inject tone and verify levels at mic, line and consumer levels during system commissioning and troubleshooting. Battery or external DC operation makes it equally useful on the bench and in the field.
How does it work?

The oscillator section provides two outputs: a balanced XLR output switchable between MIC and LINE level, and an unbalanced -10 dBV phono output. Output stability is better than 0.01 dB, which suits accurate bench-top audio testing. The metering section has a balanced XLR input switchable between MIC and LINE and an unbalanced -10 dBV phono input, either of which can feed the LED meter. For balanced inputs, meter 0 dB equals +4 dBu, and for unbalanced inputs it equals -10 dBV. A front-panel volume knob sets the monitor speaker level so you can listen to the signal under test. An IN PHASE LED lights when the oscillator output and metering input are in phase at 0 dB or greater, which helps confirm wiring polarity. The balanced line reference level can be preset by the user to +4 dBu or +6 dBu. The unit runs from two internal 9 V batteries or from an external 12 to 30 Vdc supply, and test leads and a bench-top support bracket are included. Replacement test lead sets PT-TLS1 (female XLR and clip leads) and PT-TLS2 (male XLR and clip leads) are available from RDL.
What are the key features?
- Precision 700 Hz oscillator — Output stability better than 0.01 dB supports accurate level checks.
- Mic or line balanced I/O — Front-panel switches set XLR input and output to mic or line level.
- Consumer-level connections — Unbalanced -10 dBV phono input and output cover consumer equipment.
- Built-in monitor speaker — A volume-controlled speaker lets you hear the signal being measured.
- IN PHASE indicator — An LED confirms when output and input are in phase to verify polarity.
- Battery or external power — Runs on two 9 V batteries or 12 to 30 Vdc for field and bench use.
Where is it typically used?
