What is the RDL HR-UDC1?
The RDL HR-UDC1 is a HALF-RACK universal digital audio converter that translates between AES/EBU, AES-3ID and coaxial or optical S/PDIF formats. It bridges consumer and professional digital audio equipment while keeping the signal in the digital domain. Operation up to 24 bits and 192 kHz makes it a fit for broadcast, production and commercial AV systems.
How does it work?
The HR-UDC1 automatically detects a valid input on any of four jacks: S/PDIF optical, S/PDIF coaxial, AES-3ID or AES/EBU. The input is decoded, re-clocked and retransmitted to the selected output. All pro/consumer, emphasis and sampling frequency bits common to the S/PDIF and AES/EBU standards are inserted into the output data stream. A switch selects an AES/EBU, S/PDIF coaxial or optical, or AES-3ID output and enables any required electrical and data format conversion. The AES/EBU input and output are transformer isolated and 110 Ω terminated, and the coaxial and AES-3ID jacks are 75 Ω terminated. Front-panel LEDs display the format and sample rate of a valid source received without phase-lock or bit errors. RDL's Sure-Lok supervision monitors for latch-up and re-establishes signal lock automatically. The unit runs from 24 Vdc through a terminal block or dc jack; RDL recommends its PS-24AS (USA) or PS-24AX (international) 24 Vdc supply. It can be rack mounted with the HR-RA2 19-inch rack adapter or HR-HRA1 10.4-inch rack chassis.
