What is the RDL HR-MP2A?

The RDL HR-MP2A is a dual-channel microphone preamplifier that converts two XLR microphone signals to balanced line level. Each preamplifier has front-panel gain, a 15 dB input pad, polarity reversal and a CLIP indicator, with switchable 48 V phantom for both channels. It operates as a stereo preamp or as two independent mono preamps and adds a summed mono output. It suits conference rooms, houses of worship and training rooms that need clean microphone gain ahead of a mixer, DSP or recorder.

How does it work?

RDL HR-MP2A dual microphone preamplifier

Gain on each channel is continuously adjustable from 20 dB to 60 dB using a front-panel control. The INPUT PAD switch attenuates the input by 15 dB, increasing the maximum input level from +5 dBu to above +20 dBu. A POLARITY switch reverses signal polarity when needed, and switchable 48 V phantom powers condenser microphones on both preamplifiers. The CLIP LED flashes when a peak comes within 3 dB of clipping, a threshold 17 dB above a normal +4 dBu output. Each preamplifier provides balanced outputs on a detachable terminal block and a 1/4 in TRS jack, and a summing amplifier provides a combined mono output. Balanced outputs may be wired unbalanced, and the rear panel provides a terminal block and power jack for 24 Vdc. THD and crosstalk are below the noise floor, with CMRR above 80 dB. The half-rack-width shielded metal enclosure can stand alone or mount in an RDL rack adapter. RDL recommends the PS-24AS power supply for the USA or the PS-24AX for international installations; the supply is not included.

What are the key features?

  • Two independent preamps — Separate gain, pad and polarity controls for each microphone channel.
  • 20 to 60 dB gain — Front-panel controls set continuous gain on each channel.
  • 48 V phantom — Switchable 48 V phantom powers condenser microphones on both preamplifiers.
  • 15 dB input pad — The pad raises the maximum input level above +20 dBu for hot sources.
  • CLIP indicators — A CLIP LED per channel warns when peaks come within 3 dB of clipping.
  • TRS and terminal block outputs — Each preamp outputs on 1/4 in TRS and terminal block, plus a mono sum.

Where is it typically used?

  • Conference room
  • House of worship
  • Training room
  • Boardroom
  • Broadcast studio

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the HR-MP2A differ from the HR-MP2?

The HR-MP2A has TRS and terminal block outputs, 48 V phantom for both preamps and CLIP LEDs. The HR-MP2 adds XLR outputs, a low-cut filter, 24 V or 48 V phantom per input and VU meters.

Can it run as a stereo preamplifier?

Yes. It can be used for stereo or as two separate mono preamplifiers.

What power does it need?

24 Vdc at 165 mA, or 190 mA with phantom, ground-referenced. RDL recommends the PS-24AS power supply for the USA or the PS-24AX for international installations; the supply is not included.

What is the frequency response?

10 Hz to 70 kHz within ±0.5 dB.

How is it mounted?

It operates free-standing with the included feet, or mounts in a rack using an optional RDL adapter such as the HR-RA2 or HR-HRA1.

What warranty does the HR-MP2A carry?

This product is covered by a 7-year RDL warranty. For warranty claims, RMAs or support, contact Creation Networks at (888) 230-3661 or sales@creationnetworks.net.

Can Creation Networks help integrate the HR-MP2A?

Yes. Creation Networks supports system design, equipment selection and installation planning for RDL products nationwide. Call (888) 230-3661 for a quote or technical help.
