What is the RDL HR-DDA4?

The RDL HR-DDA4 is a 1 x 4 AES/EBU and S/PDIF digital audio distributor that reclocks one digital input and sends it to four individually buffered outputs. The input and each output support AES/EBU, S/PDIF or AES-3ID, with format conversion for the selected output and operation up to 24 bits and 192 kHz. How does it work?

The HR-DDA4 automatically detects a valid signal on any of its four input jacks: S/PDIF optical, S/PDIF coaxial, AES-3ID or AES/EBU. The input is decoded, reclocked and retransmitted to four individually buffered outputs. Each output has its own rear-panel switch that selects AES/EBU, S/PDIF coaxial or AES-3ID and enables the matching jack with any required electrical and data format conversion. AES/EBU input and outputs are 110 Ω and transformer isolated, while the S/PDIF coaxial and AES-3ID jacks are 75 Ω terminated. Front-panel LEDs show the incoming format and sample rate, from 32 kHz to 192 kHz, whenever a valid source is received without phase-lock or bit errors. Sure-Lok supervision monitors possible causes of latch-up and re-initiates digital signal lock to keep distribution stable in professional environments. The unit runs on ground-referenced 24 Vdc at 50 mA through the terminal block or dc jack, with a front-panel power switch; RDL recommends the PS-24AS (USA) or RDL PS-24AX (international) supply. Pair it with the RDL HR-DSX4 digital audio selector for source switching, and rack mount it with the HR-RA2 Half-Rack adapter or HR-HRA1 rack mount.
