What is the RDL FP-TPX3A?
The RDL FP-TPX3A is a 3-channel remote-controlled mixer that accepts RDL Format-A twisted pair audio senders directly. It lets users adjust the volume of several sources in a zone from an RDL wall remote while the audio stays at the equipment location. Balanced and unbalanced outputs, including two RCA outputs for a stereo amplifier, simplify amplifier integration. It suits classrooms, meeting rooms and multi-purpose spaces that use Format-A wall plates for mic and line inputs.
How does it work?

Two Format-A RJ45 jacks accept signals from daisy-chained senders or from two separate home runs, and the mixer powers all connected active senders. The mixer combines the three Format-A signals on pairs A, B and C, and a detachable LOCAL INPUT terminal block can feed pair C with a local paging or music source when no sender uses it. Each INPUT GAIN control is calibrated for passive unbalanced senders in one direction and for active or balanced passive senders in the other. A dual-LED VU meter shows the mono mix level, which is available on a balanced terminal block and on two RCA jacks for a stereo amplifier. RDL two- or three-channel remotes such as the RDL D-RC2 or RDL D-RC3 connect over twisted pair to the light-blue control port and are powered by the mixer. With a two-channel remote, pair C stays at unity gain for paging or can be disabled, and the output mutes if the remote cable is disconnected. Two open-collector AUDIO DETECT outputs can turn amplifiers on when audio is present or mute amplifiers equipped for remote muting. These outputs stay triggered for 10 minutes after audio stops, or 20 minutes with a ground jumper. RDL recommends the PS-24AS power supply for the USA or the PS-24AX for international installations; the supply is not included.
What are the key features?
- Format-A inputs — Connects RDL active or passive Format-A senders such as the RDL D-TPS3A over standard twisted pair.
- VCA remote mixing — Each input pair is mixed by a VCA adjusted from an RDL 2- or 3-channel remote control.
- Local paging input — A terminal block feeds pair C with a local paging or music source when it is otherwise unused.
- Balanced and RCA outputs — The mono mix feeds a balanced terminal block and two RCA jacks for stereo amplifier inputs.
- Audio detect outputs — Open-collector outputs enable or mute power amplifiers based on audio presence.
- Powers senders and remotes — The mixer supplies power to connected active Format-A senders and the remote control.
Where is it typically used?
- Training room
- Conference room
- Multi-purpose room
- House of worship
- Government space

Frequently Asked Questions
Which remote controls work with the FP-TPX3A?
RDL lists the D-RC2, D-RC2M, D-RC3, D-RC3M, DS-RC2, DS-RC2M, DS-RC3 and DS-RC3M remote controls.
Does it power the Format-A senders?
Yes. The FP-TPX3A provides power to all connected active senders. Its power requirement is 24 Vdc at 120 mA plus the connected sender currents.
Can I connect a local paging source?
Yes. The LOCAL INPUT terminal block connects directly to pair C when no connected sender uses that pair.
Is the power supply included?
No. RDL recommends the PS-24AS power supply for the USA or the PS-24AX for international installations; the supply is not included.
Can it connect to a stereo amplifier?
Yes. The mono mix is available on two unbalanced RCA jacks intended for the stereo input of a power amplifier, plus a balanced terminal block output.
How is it mounted?
RDL lists the FP-HRA 10.4" rack mount, FP-RRA 19" rack adapter, FP-RRAH hinged adapter, FP-RRB1 rear rail kit and DRA-35F DIN rail adapter as mounting accessories.
