What is the RDL FP-ALC1?
The RDL FP-ALC1 is a single-channel automatic level control that delivers consistent mono audio levels from professional sources with varying output levels. Split-band AGC with self-adjusting attack and release keeps the processing transparent across a control range of more than 20 dB. Balanced input and output connect on a detachable terminal block in a compact RDL FLAT-PAK chassis.
How does it work?

The FP-ALC1 accepts a +4 dBu nominal balanced bridging input and delivers a +4 dBu, 150 Ω balanced output; both may be connected unbalanced. Its automatic level range spans -16 to +14 dBu, so sources that vary widely come out at a steady level. A gate at -18 dBu stops the AGC from seeking level during pauses in the program. Setup uses a single adjustment: gain is set as high as possible with the loudest source without the INPUT OVERLOAD indicator flashing. Typical uses include telephone paging outputs, music-on-hold feeds, amplifier inputs in background or foreground systems, and intercom voice feeds. Power is 24 Vdc at 80 mA, ground-referenced, through the barrier block or a dc power jack on the end panel. The compact FLAT-PAK case can be rack mounted using RDL accessories such as the RDL FP-HRA or RDL FP-RRA rack adapter.
What are the key features?
- Consistent levels — Evens out variable professional sources to a steady +4 dBu output.
- Split-band AGC — Keeps level control transparent to the listener.
- Self-adjusting time constants — Attack and release times adapt automatically to the program.
- Single-control setup — One gain adjustment with an INPUT OVERLOAD indicator.
- Gated control — A gate prevents level seeking during silence.
- FLAT-PAK convenience — Compact metal chassis with terminal block and dc jack power.
Where is it typically used?
- Commercial meeting space
- Conference room
- House of worship
- Government space
- Multi-purpose room
