RDL EZ-MPA1 – Mic Preamp with Compressor and Stereo Line Output
What is the RDL EZ-MPA1?
The RDL EZ-MPA1 is a microphone preamplifier with a front-panel level control, audio compressor and LED VU metering. It adds a microphone input to mixers and amplifiers that only have line inputs.
How does it work?
A balanced XLR input on the rear panel supports dynamic or condenser microphones, with switchable phantom voltage. The preamplified signal feeds both channels of the line output on RCA or mini-jacks. A front-panel switch engages a compressor that controls overloads and clipping during loud bursts, and dual-LED VU metering makes level setting easy. It runs from a 24 Vdc supply such as the RDL PS-24AX 24 Vdc power supply. For permanent installs, the unit mounts in a 19-inch rack with the RDL EZ-RA6 rack adapter or under a counter with the EZ-UCB2 under-counter bracket pair.
What are the key features?
- XLR mic input — A balanced rear-panel XLR input accepts dynamic or condenser microphones.
- Switchable phantom — A rear-panel switch turns phantom voltage on for condenser microphones.
- Front-panel compressor — A switch enables a compressor that controls overloads and clipping from loud peaks.
- Stereo line output — The mic signal feeds left and right outputs on RCA jacks or a mini-jack.
- Dual-LED VU meter — LED metering helps set proper levels quickly.
