RDL EZ-HK1 – Stereo Audio Hum Killer Isolation Module
What is the RDL EZ-HK1?
The RDL EZ-HK1 is a stereo audio transformer isolation module that eliminates ground-loop hum from unbalanced consumer sources. Installed between a computer or media player and a grounded amplifier, it cleans up audio in conference rooms, classrooms and AV racks.
How does it work?
Inputs and outputs are provided on gold-plated RCA jacks and stereo mini-jacks, so the module also converts between mini-jack and RCA formats. The shield of each input jack is electrically isolated from the case and from the output ground. The output shields connect to the case through a rear-panel ground-lift switch for added flexibility. RDL specifies unity gain, 20 Hz to 20 kHz (±1 dB) frequency response and less than 0.05% THD at 1 kHz.
What are the key features?
- Ground-loop hum elimination — Transformer isolation removes hum caused by ground loops between the source and a grounded amplifier.
- RCA and mini-jack connections — Stereo inputs and outputs on both RCA and mini-jacks also allow conversion between the two formats.
- Switch-selectable ground lift — A rear-panel switch lifts the output jack shields from the case when needed.
- Passive unity-gain circuit — The passive design passes -10 dBV signals at unity gain without a power supply.
- Portable or installed — The compact case, sized at 1/6 rack width, works for portable use or permanent installation.
