What is the RDL DS-J1?
The RDL DS-J1 is a Decora-style microphone input panel assembly in a stainless steel finish that puts a female XLR jack on the wall and terminates it on a rear barrier block. It gives conference rooms, classrooms and multi-purpose rooms a clean, passive mic input that wires straight back to a mixer or mic preamp.
How does it work?
The front-panel female XLR has gold contacts and connects directly to a four-terminal rear barrier block: CASE GROUND, SHIELD (XLR pin 1), + (pin 2) and - (pin 3). Because the shield and case ground are on separate terminals, the installer can jumper them together or leave them apart to control ground loops. The panel is fully passive and needs no power. The rear is enclosed in a labeled metal enclosure, which makes field termination straightforward. Mount it in a standard US single-gang electrical box, an RDL WB-1U back box, an SMB-1G surface mount box, a DC-1G desktop chassis, or an RM-D3 19-inch rack panel.
What are the key features?
- XLR input with gold contacts — The female XLR connector accepts a standard microphone cable and resists corrosion over years of plugging and unplugging.
- Barrier block wiring — All connections land on a rear barrier block, so no soldering is required at the wall.
- Ground-lift terminals — Separate CASE GROUND and SHIELD terminals let the installer choose whether to bond the cable shield to the chassis.
- Passive design — The assembly needs no power supply, which keeps installation simple at any input location.
- Decora-style footprint — It measures 4.13 in high by 1.7 in wide and fits a standard US single-gang box with at least 1.75 in of depth.
