Product Overview

The QSC MPA-Q 8x250 is an eight-channel, 250 W per channel Q-SYS network amplifier that brings native Q-SYS integration to medium and large distributed audio applications. Part of the MPA-Q Series — QSC's mid-power tier in the Q-SYS network amplifier portfolio — the MPA-Q 8x250 is engineered for hospitality venues, entertainment spaces, retail environments, and corporate and government facilities where reliable, software-driven amplification across many zones is essential. Creation Networks is an authorized QSC dealer supplying and integrating the MPA-Q Series for commercial AV projects nationwide.

Product Description

The MPA-Q 8x250 delivers 250 W per channel across eight independently configurable output channels with Lo-Z, Hi-Z, 70 V, and 100 V direct drive available on every channel — no bridging or manual switches required. Eight analog line-level inputs are fully routable into Q-SYS or can drive outputs directly. Two gigabit Ethernet ports provide redundant Q-LAN networked audio, and LAN A optionally accepts PoE (802.3af Type 1) to enable rapid audio restore after a power interruption. Standalone Mode automatically switches to available analog inputs if network connectivity drops, ensuring audio continuity without manual intervention. The full-rack-width, 2RU quiet fan-cooled chassis can be rack-mounted or surface-mounted, and includes four GPI inputs and two NO/NC output relays for integration with third-party control systems.

Key Features

  • 8 output channels at 250 W per channel (continuous, all channels driven)
  • Lo-Z, Hi-Z, 70 V, and 100 V direct drive on all channels — no bridging or manual switches needed
  • 8 analog line-level inputs, fully routable into Q-SYS or direct out
  • Two gigabit Ethernet ports for redundant Q-LAN networked audio
  • LAN A accepts optional PoE (802.3af Type 1) for quick audio restore after power outage
  • Standalone Mode: automatic failover to analog inputs if network connectivity drops
  • Analog Mode: bypasses network audio for fully analog amplifier operation; front-panel display allows basic channel configuration
  • DSP per channel: Gain, Polarity, IIR Filters (HPF, Parametric, Shelf, Array Correction), FIR Filters (1024 taps), Delay (up to 2020 ms), Limiters (narrow-band, RMS, peak)
  • SNR >112 dB (A-weighted, 20 Hz–20 kHz, 8Ω)
  • THD+N <0.01%–0.03% typical at 1 kHz (1% max)
  • 4 GPI inputs and 2 NO/NC output relays for external control integration
  • Full-rack-width, 2RU quiet fan-cooled form factor; rack or surface mountable
  • 100–240 V, 50/60 Hz universal power input

Typical Applications

  • Hotels, casinos, and resorts with multi-zone background music and paging across lobbies, restaurants, and event spaces
  • Entertainment venues and nightclubs requiring distributed audio across many independently controlled zones
  • Retail flagship stores and shopping centers with zone-by-zone audio management
  • Large corporate campuses and conference centers with distributed paging and background music
  • Government facilities and airport terminals requiring reliable, zone-specific audio distribution
  • Houses of worship with overflow rooms, lobbies, and courtyard audio zones
  • Multi-zone performance audio applications integrated within the Q-SYS platform

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if the network connection drops?
The MPA-Q 8x250 features Standalone Mode, which automatically switches audio sources to the available analog line inputs if network connectivity is lost. When network audio is restored, the amplifier switches back automatically — with no manual intervention required.
Can the MPA-Q 8x250 run without a Q-SYS Core?
Yes. Setting the rear-panel Mode switch to Analog Mode bypasses Q-SYS entirely, turning the unit into a fully analog amplifier. In this mode, analog inputs route directly to corresponding outputs, and basic channel configuration (gain, mute, impedance, bridge) is available from the front-panel display.
Does the MPA-Q 8x250 support 70 V and 100 V distributed audio?
Yes. Lo-Z (2, 4, 8Ω), 70 V, 100 V, and Hi-Z are all supported on every output channel simultaneously without bridging or manual switch changes — all configurable in Q-SYS Designer Software.
How does PoE benefit this amplifier?
LAN A accepts optional PoE (802.3af Type 1). When a PoE connection is present after a power outage, the amplifier can restore network audio within seconds — before its internal power supply is fully initialized — minimizing audio downtime.
