The PTZOptics Serial DB9 Male to Female Plenum-Rated Extender Cable (DB9M-F-25) extends VISCA-over-RS-232 serial control from a joystick or PC serial adapter to the first PTZ camera in a control chain. At 25 feet with a male DB9 on one end and female DB9 on the other, this plenum-rated cable is suitable for permanent installation in commercial AV environments where cables route through air-handling spaces. It is the correct cable for connecting a PTZOptics Serial Joystick G4 or a PC serial port to the RS-232 input on a PTZ camera for serial-based PTZ camera control.

Product Description

In VISCA-based PTZ camera control systems, the DB9 extender cable connects the controller output to the camera's RS-232 input. The DB9M-F-25 extends this connection up to 25 feet, allowing the controller or PC to be located away from the camera without requiring a home-run cable to every camera in the system. Once the signal reaches the first camera, 8-pin mini-DIN cascade cables (VISCA-25 and similar) continue the control signal to additional cameras in the daisy chain.

The plenum (CMP) rating qualifies this cable for routing through ceiling plenums and other air-handling spaces in commercial buildings, meeting the fire safety requirements for in-ceiling cable installation without the need for additional conduit in most jurisdictions. The white jacket is consistent with the rest of PTZOptics' plenum cable line and coordinates with ceiling tile and white mount finishes.

This cable is not compatible with PTZOptics serial joystick controllers for VISCA daisy-chaining — the serial joystick uses this cable only to reach the first camera, while cascade cables handle camera-to-camera control. For operators using VISCA software on a PC, the DB9M-F-25 extends the PC's serial adapter output to the PTZ camera's RS-232 input over a comfortable working distance. Longer versions (50-foot, 75-foot, 100-foot) are available for larger installations.
