Product Overview

The Panamax Max 5400 voltage regulation power conditioner (model M5400-PM) is a 2RU rack-mount unit that goes beyond standard surge protection and filtering by actively regulating output voltage — maintaining a consistent 120VAC output even when incoming line voltage fluctuates between 100VAC and 136VAC. It provides 11 outlets across 5 isolated outlet banks, 15A total capacity, Level 4+ power cleaning and filtration, AVM (Automatic Voltage Monitoring), and Protect or Disconnect surge protection. Currently available at a significant discount from its standard retail price, the Max 5400 is the highest-specification power conditioner in the Panamax PM Series for demanding AV rack installations.

Product Description

Panamax Max 5400 Voltage Regulation Power Conditioner

The Panamax Max 5400 (M5400-PM) is a 2-rack-unit power conditioner and voltage regulator designed for professional AV environments where power quality is critical to system performance. Unlike simpler power conditioners that only filter noise or clamp surges, the Max 5400 actively corrects incoming voltage — its regulation capture range is 100VAC to 136VAC, with a regulated output of 120VAC plus or minus 6VAC. This means that during brownouts, voltage sags, or line fluctuations common in older facilities and high-draw commercial environments, connected AV equipment continues to receive consistent, stable power.

AVM (Automatic Voltage Monitoring) circuitry continuously monitors incoming line voltage, displaying the level on the front-panel digital voltmeter. A flashing red lightning bolt indicator alerts to unsafe voltage conditions, and the M5400-PM automatically disconnects power to connected equipment if voltage falls or rises beyond safe thresholds — reconnecting automatically when conditions normalize. The Protect or Disconnect circuit handles catastrophic surge events such as lightning by instantly disconnecting all AC power, then restoring it once the line is clear.

Level 4+ LiFT filtration eliminates EMI/RFI noise across the full AC bandwidth on all 11 outlets, organized into 5 isolated outlet banks to prevent noise cross-contamination between components. Banks 1 and 2 are always on; Banks 3 and 4 are switchable from the front-panel power button or via a 12V trigger; Bank 5 contains 2 high-current outlets for amplifiers and subwoofers, also switchable. Power sequencing manages startup and shutdown order to prevent blown fuses and speaker thump. A front-panel USB-A charging port (500mA), front-panel LAN port for gaming or control, and signal line protection for 2 LAN, 1 telephone, and 3 cable/satellite connections round out the feature set. A 10-foot detachable power cord, rack ears, and voltmeter/ammeter combo display are included. The M5400-PM carries a 3-year product warranty and $5,000,000 Connected Equipment Protection Policy.

FAQs

Q: How is voltage regulation different from EMI/RFI filtration?

Filtration removes high-frequency noise riding on the AC waveform — it does not change the voltage level. Voltage regulation actively corrects the output voltage to a target level (120VAC ±6V on the Max 5400) regardless of fluctuations in the incoming supply. If your facility experiences brownouts, voltage sags, or line voltage that runs consistently high or low, voltage regulation is the appropriate solution. The Max 5400 provides both regulation and Level 4+ filtration.

Q: What voltage range does the Max 5400 regulate from, and what does it output?

The M5400-PM regulation capture range is 100VAC to 136VAC. Within that range, the unit outputs a regulated 120VAC plus or minus 6VAC. If the input falls below or exceeds that capture range, AVM circuitry triggers a protective disconnect.

Q: How many outlets does the Max 5400 have, and how are they organized?

The Max 5400 has 11 total outlets across 5 isolated outlet banks: Banks 1 and 2 (5 outlets) are always on; Banks 3 and 4 (4 outlets) are switched from the front panel or 12V trigger; Bank 5 (2 outlets) are high-current switched outlets designed for amplifiers and subwoofers. All 11 outlets are voltage regulated, filtered, and surge protected.

Q: What is the Protect or Disconnect feature?

Protect or Disconnect is Panamax's response to extreme surge events. Unlike MOV-based suppressors that absorb surges and degrade over time, the Protect or Disconnect circuit instantly removes AC power from connected equipment when an overwhelming surge is detected — such as a nearby lightning strike — then automatically reconnects when conditions are safe.

Q: Does the Max 5400 include signal line protection?

Yes. The M5400-PM includes protection for 2 LAN connections (RJ-45, 10/100bT), 1 telephone line (RJ-11), and 3 coaxial cable/satellite connections (female F-connector, 0 MHz–2.2 GHz).

Q: Can the Max 5400 be rack-mounted, and is hardware included?

Yes. The M5400-PM is a 2RU rack-mount unit and ships with rack ears for standard 19-inch rack installation.

Q: What warranty and equipment protection does the Max 5400 carry?

The Max 5400 includes a 3-year limited product warranty and a $5,000,000 Lifetime Limited Connected Equipment Protection Policy when purchased from an authorized Panamax internet dealer and installed per Panamax warranty requirements.
